On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) blocked a vote on the border security amendment to the “Gang of Eight” immigration bill offered by Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Grassley was pushing for an up-or-down vote by the Senate on his amendment, which would have required the border to be secured for six full months before any legalization of illegal immigrants in America began. Reid objected to Grassley’s motion, effectively implementing a 60-vote threshold that completely blocked any attempt at a fair vote on the amendment.

If nothing gets to a vote, we'll never know what the numbers are except for what the lying liberal press and Reid tells us it is.....the rules are the same to both sides.

Reid didn't block a damn thing. They're dickering over the rules for amendments. That's all. The issue is under what rules will all amendments, not just Grassley's, be considered by the Senate. And Reid and Leahy were stuffing Mitch McConnell's words down his throat:

Mr. REID. Mr. President, a provocative act? If my friend is so interested in regular order, why have we waited 3 months to go to conference on the budget? On the budget. That is regular order. Now, suddenly, when it works to their advantage, I guess, they want to do away with the McConnell rule. What is the McConnell rule? Sixty votes on everything.

Mr. LEAHY. Mr. President, if the Senator would yield on that point, I was privileged in my capacity as President pro tempore to speak to the graduating class of pages, the group of pages who graduated just ahead of the distinguished group we have here now. There had been discussion about immigration coming up. Then the distinguished Republican leader spoke and went on at great length to the pages about how these important issues must have 60 votes on everything, must have 60 votes on amendments and so forth. I am sure the distinguished Senator from Kentucky would confirm that is what he said. There were 100-and-some-odd people in the room who heard him say it. And here we have offered--the distinguished majority leader has offered to have three Republican votes and two votes by Democratic Senators, all under exactly the same rule, the rule Senator McConnell proposed.

By the way, the amendment was tabled earlier today. It lost the vote to table 57-43, so it likely wouldn't have gotten 50 votes anyway.

If I wanted to read a mindless right wing clipping service that just posted meaningless shit without even bothering to read it and realize what a partisan hack piece it was, I'd just stay logged onto Drudge all day. What Reid did with this immigration amendment is precisely what Mitch McConnell said SHOULD be done with every piece of legislation having to do with immigration. Maybe you should do a little self-editing once in a while.

The senate rules are the senate rules. Don't like 'em? Run for the senate and vow to change them if elected. Until then, be pissed off at McConnell as well as Reid... Something I have never seen you do.

He SAYS he's just as pissed at McConnell...the only thing is I can't find a single quote from him EVER bitching about McConnell's obstructionism.
