There’s Still No House Speaker. What Happens Now?

The House is set to return to Washington on Monday with no speaker, and no solution in sight to the Republican feuding that has left the post vacant and the chamber paralyzed for nearly two weeks.

Representative Jim Jordan, the hard-right Ohio Republican and chairman of the Judiciary Committee, became his party’s latest speaker-designate on Friday, after a majority of Republicans voted by secret ballot to name him their party’s candidate. But Mr. Jordan, who is popular with the G.O.P. base and a close ally of former President Donald J. Trump, is well short of the 217 votes he would need to be elected, amid resistance from many of the more mainstream Republicans.

"The House is scheduled to convene at 6 p.m. on Monday, and Republicans have announced that the first votes of the week will be on Tuesday at noon, meaning that a speaker election could come then. It would be almost exactly two weeks after Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the speakership by a small far-right faction.
 
Everyone's entitled to their opinion.... if top priority is to have a speaker of the house then that's what you do.

Well, Lindsey Graham says he will be voting for Gym Shorts Jordan on Meet The Nation!

FUCK YOU LINDSEY GRAHAM!

Why would we want someone who tried to to overthrow the last election, in violation of the Constitution, to LEAD OUR HOUSE?

Doesn't the House Speaker have to promise and swear to the American People that he will protect the Constitution, when he is sworn in?

There is just no way GYM Jordan can honestly do that now!

Lindsey was a part of it all, it’s why he supports Jordan. I hope we discover some day what Trump has on him.

But they won’t, Scalise supporters are pissed cause Jordan’s supporters submarined Scalise, Republicans running in swing districts are not eager to jump on the Jordan bandwagon after surviving 2022, and Jordan’s abusive style offends others, especially those being pressured now by Jordanites

Will ever it ever get done, sure, at some point, the freedom idiots will never compromise, Jordan will never give up, and the others will get frustrated with the idiocy, so Jimmy will most likely get elected at some point, just about insuring a shutdown, impeachment, and ascendancy of the Democrats in the House in 2024

Here is what I propose:

Have a vote in the House...and whoever gets the most votes...becomes the Speaker. Anyone can run...but in order to be a candidate, he or she must first PLEDGE to support whoever gets the most votes.

As you said...that would easily resolve the matter.

Right?
