There is a tide in the affairs of men,
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
The flowing of this tide may be seen in the somewhat disorganised Occupier protests;
it may be seen in Tahrir Square this week,
it may be seen in the Murdoch trials and in the evidence of the Dowlers and Hugh Grant.
These events are the breaking edge, the foaming vanguard, of a giant wave which may be signalling the biggest social change we have seen in our brief spans.
The people have, as if by some universal direction, come on to the streets of our capitals to say to the rich and powerful, 'this far and no further'. The exploitation of man by his fellow must stop.
Unless the top billionaires and dictators are completely stupid (and they probably are not) they will see the previously firm land, that made their luxurious beach in the sun, being eroded. Soon there will be nowhere to hide their billions as 'safe havens' like Switzerland, the Virgin Islands and so many more fall victim to the incoming tide of the anger of good men.
The days are coming when our politicians will be dragged screaming from their comfort blankets and be forced to honestly represent their people or be cast out.
The day is coming when Republicans, the Tories and other right wing political parties will return to their roots of reason.
The day will come when there is a return to healthy multi party politics based upon policies and fairness.
The day will come when we see the death of the 'We are rich and powerful and we can do what we like with you' philosophy.
The day will come when we elect a president or a prime minister according to his or her policies and not according to the colour of his skin or his family background.
The day will come and you can make it come sooner rather than later by simply saying, 'This far and no further'.
And if you do not believe that you could be part of this movement then you are, most definitely, and to use a cliche, part of the problem and you will lose.
Remember: the richest 130 people in the US have a combined personal wealth (not the value of the companies and corporations) of 3.5 times the amount Europe has given to Greece in an effort to rescue an ENTIRE nation.
