  • Deandre Charles was arrested in death of 60-year-old Rabbi Joseph Raksin
  • Miami police found him thanks in part to awkward sketch drawn by witness
  • Charles, 15, was arrested last week following a 16-month investigation
  • Raksin was shot dead on August 9, 2014, while he was visiting from NYC
  • Grand jury indicted Charles for murder and attempted armed robbery
Police charged a 15-year-old student in the slaying of a New York rabbi who was on his way to temple in Miami - and they released an image of the sketch that helped to catch him. Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote said last Wednesday that homicide detectives had arrested Deandre Charles in connection with the death of 60-year-old Rabbi Joseph Raksin.

Thanks in part to the awkward sketch, Charles was arrested following a 16-month investigation.

Raksin was shot dead August 9, 2014, in Miami, where he had been visiting family from New York. A witness to the crime drew the sketch of Raksin that led to his arrest, according to WSVN. At the time, authorities said the slaying appeared to have been a robbery gone bad, but had not ruled out a hate crime. But authorities called it a crime of opportunity during a press conference last week.

The Miami Herald reports DNA and eyewitness testimony helped identity Charles. A grand jury indicted him on first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery charges. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being held without bail.

My wife and I were talking about how well we would do in describing a suspect to a police artist and we came to the conclusion we probably wouldn't do any better than what
you've posted above.....its a lot harder than you would think.....:palm:
