The Warnings

All over my tv, my newspapers, and here on this board, all I hear after a landslide is how careful Barack better be not to govern "to the left". Now, of course what is amusing is that first we'd have to define left. In a nation whose citizens overwhelming support government guaranteed heath care, a lot of you guys would be real suprised as to where the actual center is.

But that aside...does anyone remember ANYONE issuing dire warnings about george bush being "careful not to govern to the right he better stay in the center or else" either time he won with far less electoral votes than obama did???

Right.

Pretty silly stuff.

The American people deside to dump the right and then then news people think the newly elected guy better swing right.

Yeah.. the Problem with Bush is that he brought on one of the largest expansions of Government in History (2nd to FDR)..... not quite the Conservative you make him out to be ...

Obama goes to far to the left.. he will be a one termer. But... I will give him Credit Due... he is a Smart Cookie... watch his Cabinet .. it will be in the middle.

"not quite the Conservative you make him out to be "

Where were these statements when the entire conservative party was backing everything this asshole did?

Yeah, as I said,if you ever looked at the numbers for certain issues, you'd understand that you are not the barometer of where the country stands.

that's horseshit, Obama knows to give the democrats what they elected hime to give.
Otherwise he's out. 8 yrs of left and left center neocons get ready to eat it.

His cabinet will be all over the place.

He is smart enough to accept differing ideas without getting all confused like W.

He wants differeing oppinions becasue he wants all the ideas to be aired.

He will govern from intelligence taking in all the facts.

He will be one of the greats.

You quoting from the Gospel?

I was one of those who talked about Obama working better as a centrist.

If you look at his shift during the campaign, it was towards a centrist position. That gained him a considerable number of votes.

Bush is a moron. Using him to justify anything is a waste of time. Also, the republicans ignoring the centrist positions is responsible for much of the backlash that this election showed.

I am not saying Obama should abandon his promises or his base. But the most successful presidents have been more towards the center. Look what Clinton was able to accomplish.

Needs to be a bit left of center which is where I think the country really is right now.
Plus we have a few bush things to undo.

I think he can toe the line. He's thinking 8 years, and knows some of the mistakes of the past. He will do some important things for the left, namely healthcare, but I'm expecting him to govern from a more centrist position overall.

Sol, I agree with this. I always look back to the sinking feeling I had in my gut the first time Clinton was elected and then how I didn't care the next time because he wasn't as bad as the far right was trying to make him out to be. The worst I got from Clinton was the so-called Assault Weapons Ban and some judges with questionable judgment. I hope it is the same way with Obama.

That is the thing I see as a good reason for working from a centrist position, that he needs to stay for 8.

The things that we need will not be quick to get started or quick to show results.
