Five dead, 35 wounded — including boy, 16 — in weekend violence

Five people died -- including a 16-year-old boy -- and at least 35 others have been wounded in separate weekend shootings across the city, Chicago police reported.

A bloody overnight stretch from late Saturday into early Sunday alone saw 20 people wounded.

The deadly shootings began about 4:45 p.m. Friday in the 5100 block of South May where two men were killed and three others were wounded.

The five were standing outside when two gunmen approached them on foot and opened, police said in a statement.

Rashuan Stephany, 22, of the 1300 block of West 49th Street, and Mario Jackson, 26, of the 5100 block of South Morgan Street, died a short time later at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An 18-year-old man shot in the buttocks and a 24-year-old man shot in the hand also were taken to Stroger, police said, adding that both men were in “stable” condition.

Police said someone drove a fifth victim -- a 39-year-old man -- to Provident Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound to the arm.

The second fatal shooting happened about 12:49 a.m. on Saturday during an apparent robbery attempt, according to police.

Kenneth J. Jones, 27, of the 3800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head in the 6800 block of South Indiana, officials said.

At 10:20 a.m., two brothers were sitting inside a sedan parked on 111th Street near South Edbrooke Avenue when a dark-colored sports-utility vehicle drove up and shots were fired, police
said.

Derrick Wilkerson, 21, of the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue, was shot in the chest and later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said.
His 19-year-old brother suffered gunshot wounds to the arms and was in “stable” condition, police said.

The youngest to die from weekend gun violence was a 16-year-old boy shot on his front porch in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. Shots were fired from a gray vehicle about 8 p.m., police said, adding that the shooting might be gang-related.

The teen, identified as Joseph Briggs, was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

In all, at least 35 people -- mostly men ranging in age from 17 to 50 -- suffered non-life-threatening injuries in separate shootings on the South and West sides since Friday afternoon.
And most happened last Saturday in to Sunday morning.

Two separate shootings in the Southwest Side Lawndale alone left nine people wounded late Saturday and early Sunday: one in the 1300 block of South Avers and another in the 3300 block of West Douglas. The most seriously hurt was a 17-year-old shot in the abdomen at the Douglas address. The teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

I can only imagine if someone dared to ask Obama about the latest bloodbath in his hometown he’d utter something idiotic like “everyone’s doing fine” or something like that. Or he’d blame the guns instead of all the hoodlums who could look like his son.

You know, it might be time to call in the National Guard. Obviously Obama’s ex-henchman Rahm Emanuel is in over his head.

Obviously Obama and his crew don’t care about the lives of young black males when they continue to ignore the ongoing slaughter in the streets of Chicago.

I find all these shootings difficult to believe. It's unlawful to carry a firearm in chicago. surely these people aren't breaking the law by carrying guns, are they?

I wonder why you don't accuse RacistX of being "anti-gun" for posting this thread...oh, wait, no, I don't.
