the tactics of disruption

i am surprised that no one else has started a thread on this

of late the 'debate' on health care has degenerated to the use of disruption rather than debate

a group of people show up at a forum on health care and shout down the speaker/moderator and anyone else that wants to speak thereby shutting down any debate or dissemination of knowledge

now i am a firm advocate of free speech, but when one group decides not to allow anyone else to speak, that is not free speech

the for profit insurance industry makes 10's of millions a day and has spent over 140 million to oppose any form of health care reform

the rep's the party of no and the so called blue dog dems are opposed to health care changes

however, the health care industry has 'contributed' large amounts of money to the blue dog dems and surprise surprise they are a major opponent

now i admit that i support a single payer plan and either government or coop insurance

those that say that the government cannot run effective health care programs should look medicare and the feds own health care program

so every day that the insurance industry avoids health care reforms is another day of profits...340 million is a cheap price to pay Vs 10's of millions a day of profits

so delay delay delay

Democracy & free speech are an obstacle to insurance companies, big pharm and politician's profits. Of course they are going to spend millions to spread lies and fear and try to doop as many as they can. Those behind this disruption of town halls probably sit back and laugh at the blue collar terrorists who do their bidding and don't benefit from it.

The master of disruption is the LEFT..

all they screeched during the Bush Presidency, dissent is patriotic

Now all of a sudden they want us ALL to be civil.....I guess because it's a "Dear Leader" as President..

what a joke

Do you understand the difference between dissent & disruption?

It doesn't sound like you do.

It's hard to believe you won't even call Palin on her blatant lie & fear tactics. You guys have no credibility on this issue. I guarantee that you have never looked at a summary of the plan, and have no idea what is in it.

why should I call Palin on anything...You wont call your Dear Leader on his blatant lies and fear tactics...hell you even sit by his administration besmirch the American citizens for voicing their concerns and then he sends out the goon squad to attack the citizens at the town halls..

so don't talk to me about denouncing anyone..

Oh really? I have a copy of the plan right here. Do you?

"The AFL-CIO has called on its union affiliates to defend lawmakers’ health care reform Town Hall meetings from “Corporate…mob rule” in recent days.

AFL-CIO President John Sweeney sent out a memo this week outlining a blue-print for union members to counter the campaign of fear and intimidation in which hired thugs are infiltrating health care town hall meetings to heckle, disrupt and even physically assault health care reform advocates..."

Damn yuyu, I hadn't heard this, next thing you know there'll be armed guards at the door of town hall meetings. then a drive by or bombing, what the hell you can get your anti-abortion friends to supply the explosives.

yuyu, this escalation is not democracy, and must stop.

well, no one would of expected you or any leftie to disagree with the goon squad tactics..you all just wail about the American citizen who might be getting loud at these poor little elite congress men and woman who are supposed to be working "FOR US"

Give me a break, Tutu; if there is anyone on this board who has absolutely no friggin' clue what is in the plan, it is you. The level of disinformation which you both spread & support is embarassing.

And yeah - I know the plan, and what is being proposed. It bears little - if any - resemblence to the plan you, Limbaugh & Beck talk about every day.

There’s a famous Norman Rockwell painting titled “Freedom of Speech,” depicting an idealized American town meeting. The painting, part of a series illustrating F.D.R.’s “Four Freedoms,” shows an ordinary citizen expressing an unpopular opinion. His neighbors obviously don’t like what he’s saying, but they’re letting him speak his mind.

That’s a far cry from what has been happening at recent town halls, where angry protesters — some of them, with no apparent sense of irony, shouting “This is America!” — have been drowning out, and in some cases threatening, members of Congress trying to talk about health reform.

There is always some jeering and some rudeness when opposite sides clash. Paul mentions some of the Social Security privatization meetings that the Bushies held. Like everyone I can remember some clashes between partisans at Democratic and Republican conventions. The huge difference here is the determination to derail any genuine debate.
