A suspect who was killed by police after snipers shot 12 Dallas officers, five fatally, "wanted to kill white people, especially white officers," police chief David Brown said.

The man was killed after authorities cornered him in a garage at El Centro Community College. After several hours of negotiations, lasting into the early hours, officials exchanged gunfire with the suspect and "saw no other option" but to kill him by detonating a bomb, Brown said.

"Other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger," he said. Brown said the suspect, who he would not identify, told a hostage negotiator that he was with the Black Lives Matter movement and was upset about police shootings of black men elsewhere in the U.S.

"The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers," Brown said.

Here you go, granpa. More blood to sate your racist lust for killing.

Two New York City police officers died after being shot "execution-style" while in a parked patrol car in Brooklyn.

In a somber news conference, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton said the two officers were deliberately targeted.

"They were, quite simply, assassinated, targeted for their uniform," Bratton said. "Both were ambushed and murdered."

Bratton said the attacker approached the officers' vehicle from the passenger side and opened fire, shooting his weapon several times. The officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, "never had an opportunity to draw their weapons" and were "killed with no warning, no provocation," he said.

"They may have never even seen their assailant, their murderer," Bratton said.

The suspect, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, fled to a nearby subway station, where he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Bratton said.

Earlier, Brinsley shot his former girlfriend at a Baltimore County, Md., residence. Brinsley also posted on the victim's Instagram account, where his comments indicated Brinsley had a "very strong bias against" police.

The shooting comes at a time when police across the USA are being criticized for their tactics following widely publicized deaths of black men.

Police officers in three different states have been ambushed in Missouri, Tennessee and Georgia.

A Ballwin, Missouri, police officer is clinging to life on Friday after being shot during a traffic stop. The officer stopped a speeding car at about 11 a.m., the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. As the officer was walking back to his car, the suspect exited his vehicle and walked briskly towards the officer. He then fired three shots at the officer.

“Make no mistake, we believe that Ballwin officer was ambushed,” St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar told the local newspaper. The suspect fled in his vehicle but was captured a few miles away. A pistol was recovered from the vehicle. The suspect has a previous felony record and is currently on probation on a gun charge. He was also on probation for a stolen vehicle charge in Oklahoma from 2011. In 2015 the suspect was paroled in California on a firearms charge.

In a shooting described by CBS News as “similar,” A Bristol, Tennessee, police officer was shot by a man who allegedly killed one other person and injured two others.

Findings by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) indicate the suspect, 37,year-old Lakeem Keon Scott may have been targeting people and officers because he was “troubled by recent events involving African-Americans and law enforcement officers in other parts of the country.” Soctt was armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a pistol, a local CBS affiliate reported.

A gunman opened fire on a police station in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., on Sunday, killing one officer in what authorities called an unprovoked attack before the assailant and a second suspect were arrested.

The accused gunman was wounded in the ensuing shootout with several officers outside the station but was expected to survive, Prince George's County Police Chief Henry Stawinski told reporters hours later.

The second suspect, who was believed to have accompanied the shooter but fled the scene when the gunfire began, was taken into custody about 30 minutes later following a search of the area, Stawinski said.

One eyewitness was quoted in The Washington Post as saying she heard the sound of what she thought were firecrackers outside, then looked out her window to see a man dressed in black firing a handgun at the police station.

"He fired one shot, and then he started pacing back and forth, then fired another shot," Lascelles Grant, a nurse who lives nearby, told the newspaper. Grant said she then saw police officers pouring out of the station.

A New York City Police Department officer was killed after being "ambushed" inside a mobile command unit. The 12-year veteran of the force Miosotis Familia was shot to death by Alexander Bonds in a Bronx neighborhood shortly after midnight, the Associated Press reported.

Surveillance footage captured Bonds exiting a nearby convenience store before "moving tightly along the wall" and walking "purposefully" toward the mobile command vehicle, police said. The mobile command post had been established in the area following a triple shooting. Familia was writing in a notebook in the front of the vehicle when Bonds fired a single round through the window and hit her in the head.

After Familia's partner called for help, two other officers encountered Bonds about one block away from the scene. Bonds then drew a revolver on the officers, according to the New York Times. Officers opened fire and killed Bonds.

Bonds had been paroled in 2013 after serving seven years for robbery in a Syracuse-area prison. In a Facebook video posted last September that's since been reviewed by detectives, Bonds criticized the facility's conditions and the behavior of police officers. "Son, we gonna shake," he said in the clip. "We gonna do something. We can't be dying for free. Is you stupid? I want justice."
