Steve Mostyn's unexpected death leaves the Texas DEMOCRAT Party less one of its most significant donors of the past two decades, and a driving force behind its dream of regaining clout in statewide politics after an electoral drought dating back to 1994.

Since 2000, Mostyn and his wife, Amber, had donated more than $24 million to political causes, according to campaign finance records. The Mostyns were co-founders of the Ready for Hillary PAC, a political action committee supporting Clinton's unsuccessful campaign for president.
