The Good news about Trump being President.

So far, two things....

It gave the Democrats the chance to not take up the insurrection and make it a tradition.

The second is this...

Trump is not likely to get much done, the agenda of the Senate will get accomplished because it has skilled managers, and Judicial appointments will happen, that is not good because the judiciary is a mess and will get much worse.

Trump however has very poor management skills, and if his last term is any indication he will run scattershot with no long term focus on anything particular. Big things will not get done because he has no focus, and he goes in as a lame duck. No second term.

There are plenty of people who are currently doing his bidding because he has a lot of appointments to hand out, but that will be over soon and then what does he have to incentivize people. His people do things for return favors, thats all, and his power to do them favors starts shrinking the day he takes office, as it does with any second term president.

Should be very interesting.

That's interesting. We have a family friend, lesbian lady, who has been going apoplectic on Facebook since the election.

Today she asked who is going to pay for her mortgage and bills when they strip her of S.S. and Medicare.

Who is going to protect her when bigots attack her?

She's likely to be fired at work because she's no longer going to have protections and based on the pushback to DEI.

And there will be a national abortion ban.

To push for and pass a national abortion ban and eliminate S.S. and Medicare isn't something done by the snap of a finger. It takes a large coordinated effort. So if Trump has poor management skills and is close to being a lame duck it seems rather unlikely her concerns would come to fruition wouldn't you say?

Trump wouldn’t come up with any of it on his own, he is not particularly competent in the intricacies of public policy, however this time, unlike the first time, he has the “think tanks” such as the Heritage and others onboard, They deliver and Trump will support it and get it thru, it would be like his Court appointees last time around

One of the “good” things, and it comes at a heavy opportunity cost, is the endless humor and laughs he will provide, nothing like an orange buffoon eager for attention.

Think Tanks have been around for decades (on both the right and left). It's hardly a new concept. And it doesn't matter what think tanks recommend or propose, it has to go through Congress to get enacted.

So if a think tank were to say "ban abortion nationally" that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Trump has been telling us exactly how he plans to govern in a 2nd term. He's been very clear about it.

Future historians will really shake their heads at how we still elected him President given that.
You're a Democrat though, when have Democrats ever liked proposed Republican agendas? It's not like you liked Reagan, Bush or even's Romney's proposals.

I don't like it but the world has changed. Globalization (free trade) is on the retreat (and not just in the U.S.). And this anti-trade crap Trump promotes has been the left's rhetoric for years. You didn't hear Biden out promoting free trade. He kept all of Trump's tariffs and proclaimed Milton Friedman was (metaphorically) dead.

Plenty has been written about this global move towards anti-globalization already and future historians will have the benefit of greater time to see how it plays out.

For starters, I'm not a Dem. But I'm not talking about policies. If Vance was the head of the ticket instead, I wouldn't be saying what I just said in the last post.

I'm not talking at all about policies. Trump can do what he wants there. I'm talking about his authoritarian vision - it's blatant, and if you've missed it, you haven't been paying attention.

There was no "insurrection". Stop lying.

How quickly you forget the "insurrection" (if that's how you're gonna define it) surrounding the Kavanaugh hearings. You can stop with the fake moral high ground bullshit.

Another good thing is that he'll never be able to run again.

I don't know about that.
With the SCOTUS giving the President almost unlimited powers to do just about anything he wants Trump can just start issuing EO's and there isn't much we will be able to do about it.
And if Congress thinks he has over stepped his authority it will take a long time in courts and trying to get legislation written and passed that Trump will not sign so you will also need a 2/3s vote to over ride his veto and that won't happen.
It is going to be a real shit show.

I'm trying to see the silver linings - but I think we're going to be in for some tough times come January.

It's still so weird to me that more people voted for him. He doesn't really try to hide anything - he's clear about who he is, and what he plans to do. People just project what they want to see onto him.

That would be some very interesting E.O.s if the President had the ability to uniliterally say we will no longer send out S.S. checks, pay Medicare bills and that abortion is officially banned across the land.

Somehow I don't know that the Supreme Court would say that's ok.

And it will take a lot of time maybe even YEARS to get it all figured out with the SCOTUS.
By that time there may be a LOT of AMERICANS losing their homes and going hungry because they didn't have the SS checks they depend on to live.

That’s what they want. MAGAts interviewed at his rallies said they wanted a dictator, that maybe that’s what Smerica needs to rebuild.

It’s insanity on steroids.
