The Daily injustice report vol. 30

* A Nashville Tennessee police officer is the subject of a lawsuit by the family of an unarmed robbery suspect who was shot to death when he allegedly pulled an ipod from his pocket.

* Three Howard County Maryland police officers are the subject of a lawsuit filed by a man who was allegedly beaten while handcuffed and then falsely arrested while leaving a memorial party for his father who recently died. Police were called due to a fight that broke out during the party but at least 10 witnesses stepped forward to say the son wasn’t involved and that they witnessed the cops beating him without cause.

* A New York NY police officer who’s trial is starting this week over a brutal beating that was captured on video showing him wail on a handcuffed veteran with a baton at least 20 times may get off scott-free after the victim of that beating mysteriously vanished without a trace. Prosecutors are going ahead with the trial in the hopes that he turns up.i've heard this happens often in NY and chicago.

* A Saint Mary’s County Maryland deputy is accused of arresting a woman for recording officers while she felt they were harassing people. She was arrested on felony charges of violating that state’s wiretap laws. Maryland is one of three states, including Massachusetts and Illinois, that have sparked a ton of controversy in the press and internet for using wiretap laws in order to punish people for videotaping the police doing questionable or embarrassing things… I mean, lets face it, you don’t hear about them arresting people for recording them while they do nice things.

* An Anderson California cop who has already been criminally charged for allegedly raping a woman he was transporting to jail and who is under investigation for trying to coax a rape victim into having sex with him is now accused of using excessive force against a third woman who filed a complaint against him on the same day he was arrested on sexual assault charges.

* A Struthers Ohio police officer is on paid leave while he’s facing domestic violence charged after he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife’s family to death in front of her with an AK-47 after he had an all-day bender.paid leave....for you and I that's called aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and/or terroristic threatening.

* A Las Vegas Nevada police officer is under investigation after he apparently fired a shot at an innocent man when the officer was startled by seeing him while responding to a prowling call. Fortunately he missed and police released the man after they determined he was just taking a shortcut on the way home.

* The sheriff of Harrison County Indiana, who is already the subject of several criminal indictments, is now under investigation by the FBI and state authorities after he rehired a corrections officer who tortured a prisoner in the jail by macing him then strapping him in a restraint chair and refusing to let him shower the pepperspray residue for at least 3 days… all because he wanted to clean his cell.

* The Orange County Florida sheriff’s department is being questioned for arresting a 17-year-old boy for attempted abduction of a 3-year-old girl when he apparently was doing nothing more than trying to help the girl find her mother when she appeared lost in a store. The boy was with his mother who also tried to help find the girl’s mom but wasn’t arrested. The department is also being questioned for turning the arrest into a media circus when two news crews came with them and videotaped the arrest of the minor and named him on the air. I figure the sheriff’s department will put “No good deed will go unpunished” as their new motto on all patrol cars soon enough as they claim they have no intention of dropping charges against the poor kid. This is part of the reason why misconduct must be exposed. Police have gone from using good common sense to just arresting people and letting the courts sort it out.

* At least three Los Angeles California police officers are under investigation after one of them discharged his firearm at a streetlight after they left a downtown pub, presumably after a night out drinking.

* A Detroit Michigan police SWAT team and an A&E video crew are the subject of a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges that her home was raided by that team after they unnecessarily used a flash bang grenade (sound familiar?) and that the video crew filmed her in her underwear. The team was apparently searching for a man who wasn’t there who actually ended up being arrested in California.

* A Collier County Florida deputy was fired after failing a random alcohol test that was required as part of a “last chance” employment deal after he flipped his SUV in 2008 in an alcohol-related crash. He says he doesn’t know how he tested positive but the results came back the same when he had the sample tested himself.

* The Los Angeles California police department and the city council are being sued by activists who claim police used excessive force by using tasers and batons to clear them out of council chambers when they protested a delayed vote on rent controls.

* The Mendocino County CA undersheriff was arrested on felony domestic violence charges after a physical altercation he had with a woman with whom he had a “domestic relationship” with. Oddly, the undersheriff was reportedly an advocate for women and children who served as the chairman for a project dedicated to the end of violence against women and children.

* An Auburn Indiana police officer was arrested on a perjury charge for lying to investigators during sworn testimony in a disciplinary hearing about cellphone calls made to a young girl he was accused of having an inappropriate relation with. He ended up being fired for that last year but the perjury charge is only just coming up now.

* A Prince George’s County Maryland police officer was sentenced to pay a $100 fine for speeding in a plea deal for flipping an unmarked cruiser while he was allegedly drunk. Prosecutors had to drop the DUI-related charges because the nurse who took his blood for testing apparently refused to testify for some unknown reason… hmmm…another prince georges county episode of intimidation?

* The city of Atlanta Georgia appears ready to settle a lawsuit for $425,000 to 22 cab drivers who had their permits removed from their cabs by cops who then arrested them for driving without permits before they even had a chance to drive anywhere without the just-removed permits.

* A Lake County California deputy was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of prescription drugs by state troopers after he crashed into a parked car.

* A Kenner Louisiana police officer has been suspended after arrested for shoplifting at a WalMart where he worked an off-duty security detail.

* Two Bunnell Florida police officers, who happen to be married to each other, have been arrested on a wide variety of charges including official misconduct, evidence tampering, and drug charges for several incidents of misconduct including that they illegally impounded vehicles, taking pot plants from evidence, and for drugs that were found in one of the officer’s cars.

* A Saint Cloud Minnesota police officer is suing his own department allegations that he was harassed & discriminated against after his fellow officers found out he was gay.

* The Zephyrhills Florida police department is being sued by a former officer alleging that he was retaliated against for blowing the whistle on payroll fraud.

* A Pickney Michigan police officer was sentenced to time served (1 day in jail) and probation in plea deal for .19 BAC DUI hit & skip accident.

* The San Benito Texas assistant police chief was suspended while under investigation over an “incomplete” drug test. The police union says he should be fired since that is what would happen to any other officer who didn’t complete one of their random drug tests.

* The police chief of Roseville California has issued a controversial order to his officers that he required them to sign stating that they shall not say anything critical about him or his command staff or face disciplinary action up to termination. The order comes as the chief is facing lawsuits by former officers alleging that he fostered an environment that was discriminatory against gays.

And, finally, while these last two cases won’t be in the database, I thought they were worth a mention anyway…

* An NYPD traffic cop was caught by a city councilman speeding recklessly through traffic with his emergency lights activated so the councilman followed him out of interest in what was happening. He discovered the officer wasn’t on his way to an emergency, unless you call a coffee run to Dunkin Donuts an emergency… which I guess some cops might. The councilman then started taking pictures of what he was seeing, only to have the officer approach him and give him a ticket for snapping photos of him. What a former cop said about this guy in the article was pretty interesting too.

* This one won’t be counted in the database either, but I couldn’t pass it up. A judge in Washington County Minnesota ordered a defense attorney to publicly apologize for hinting that a police officer might have been less than honest while testifying. The deadline for the apology has passed and the lawyer is refusing to abide by the order and is filing to have the case retried with a judge who is less biased in favor of the police. Another defense attorney interviewed in the article about the case said “If a judge ordered me to do that, I would tell him to go have intercourse with himself.“

as further proof that there is no such thing as equal protection under the laws, i've posted nearly a dozen stories about police officers, on or off duty, pointing a loaded gun and threatening to kill a wife, neighbor, or stranger on the road, and the 'only one' status nets him maybe a misdemeanor charge with probation and sometimes nothing more than a 5 day suspension. Well here is the flipside to that.

29 years for pointing a gun and threatening a cop

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 29 years in prison for pointing a loaded handgun at a veteran police officer last year and threatening to kill him.

have we seen enough yet? or do some people still like to worship the cops?
