Late-night comedy shows have traditionally been a lighthearted, fun way for viewers to end their days with a laugh, but recently they have turned into a political mess.

Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have been known to viciously attack President Donald Trump for just about everything he has done.

Now, the ratings are hinting that Trump just might have the last laugh, as they show the same trajectory as the NFL and Hollywood awards shows in a downward spiral of embarrassment.

The late-night viewership of ABC, CBS, plus NBC this week barely broke 8 million viewers. Not long ago retired NBC funnyman Jay Leno was bringing in 6 million viewers all on his own.

Apple kills Elvis biopic series in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal


Apple had a deal with The Weinstein Company for an Elvis Presley biopic series, but the iPhone maker decided to pull the plug in light of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

The Elvis project was in the very early stages, but it was months in the making, the report notes.

George Lopez was booed off stage at a gala for juvenile diabetes in Denver, over an anti-Trump routine that fell flat.

Lopez told a joke about the proposed border wall with Mexico, saying, “I guess you can get some Mexicans to do it cheaper and they wouldn’t crush the tunnels *underneath.”

When the audience did not respond well, he quipped, “Are you El Chapo people?” in reference to the drug kingpin who has used tunnels to evade authorities.

Lopez then announced a video segment — but he did not return to the stage.

A source close to the comedian insisted that Lopez’s segment was “only supposed to be four minutes,” even though he was listed as the night’s MC.

Luxury electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc. fired about 400 employees this week, including associates, team leaders and supervisors, a former employee told Reuters.

The dismissals were a result of a company-wide annual review, Tesla said in an emailed statement, without confirming the number of employees leaving the company.

“It’s about 400 people ranging from associates to team leaders to supervisors. We don’t know how high up it went,” said the former employee, who worked on the assembly line and did not want to be identified.

Though Tesla cited performance as the reason for the firings, the source told Reuters he was fired in spite of never having been given a bad review.

The Palo Alto, California-based company said earlier in the month that “production bottlenecks” had left Tesla behind its planned ramp-up for the new Model 3 mass-market sedan.

The company delivered 220 Model 3 sedans and produced 260 during the third quarter. In July, it began production of the Model 3, which starts at $35,000 – half the starting price of the Model S.

Mercury News had earlier reported about the firing of hundreds of employees by Tesla in the past week.

Former FOX-y lady Megyn Kelly is finding out that launching a career as a solo artist isn’t that easy. She probably thought that all of the goodwill she engendered from being Twitter-abused by POTUS during the election would propel her to Barbara Walters-heights of newswoman fame. Turns out that Megyn’s really not that popular.

Plus, critics say her show sucks. This is why celebrity publicists are letting calls from the Megyn Kelly TODAY show booker go straight to voicemail.

None of them want their clients on that shit show, according to Variety.

One high-powered publicist told Variety that she’s down with booking her clients on other parts of the Today show. Just not Meggy’s.

“I’m not booking anyone on her show. I literally haven’t pitched anyone even from right out the gate. The buzz that is out there is so bad.”

Megyn shouldn’t expect to be getting the kind of guests that Ellen, Kelly Ripa, and The View get. Because everyone thought her show was iffy from the get-go. The show’s producers took the show to the big publicity firms in L.A. last summer to sell it and a “lighter, more inspirational” Megyn Kelly. What they reportedly got in return were a lot of quizzical looks and bored glances at Apple watches.

However, according to an insider who attended one of the meetings, the team didn’t seem to have a clear direction of the show they were pitching. Kelly didn’t fit into a box like Ellen DeGeneres or Dr. Oz. And as a result, not too many celebrities jumped onboard.

i recall reading something related to this. For Trump an issue that has a favorability of anywhere close to 50-50 is great. It unifies the conservatives and his approval rating is lower anyway.

For the NFL (and using a similar argument late night comedy) 50/50 is a disaster as they are trying to reach the greatest number of people for their audience.

The "favorability" ratings that liberals love to toss around are compiled and reported by the same people who predicted a Hillary landslide, aren't they, Comrade tsuke?
