let's ban for-profit schools from getting any kind of government aid whatsoever. That's a type of government welfare that our society really can't afford, and today it reaches into the billions of dollars every year.
Other than this, that piece was the most disjointed pile of hysteria I've seen in some time. Blaming President Reagan for the costs of college education today is an absurdity.
I was in college during the Reagan presidency, and can recall the fits of rage that swept across campus with any suggestion he put forth regarding reformation of the student loan process.
Education costs are like housing costs. Or new car costs. The market can charge more if the banks are willing to make the loans and people are willing to assume that level of personal debt. Nobody is compelled to take those loans.
Undergraduate core curriculum classes (freshman and sophomore years) can still be completed at a value at community colleges, and transfers to universities for degrees in the junior and senior years.
