"That damned flag"

Why would you speak to this group?

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

"And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska."

Lets not forget that she treated this group as if it deserved respect wether she was an actual member or not.

How would you have treated such a connection in the Obama camp?

I should merge this into the other thread. Running away from embarrassing pWnership. Tsk, Tsk...

The party's first plank on its platform:

1. To effect full compliance with the constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Alaska.

Now, they have the odd idea that it means that the Federal government needs to hand back Federal land and return it to state control. That is true. Only a portion of their party believe in secession as the answer. In their FAQs they even state that there is a full range of beliefs on that matter.

I going with, at this thread desh's ditzdome has surpassed Dhula the English teacher to the illegals in NY.

You mean like, if Obama was associated with terrorist Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground, who actually bombed the Capitol and Pentagon? (Unlike Palin's 'being respectful', Ayers and Obama served on the same board of the Woods Trust Fund together...Ayers also contributed to the Obama senate campaign.) Or like Obama being involved with convicted fundraiser and crook Tony Rezko? (Again, unlike Palin giving a speech, Obama actually accepted Rezko's money.)

You know Desh, I have a hunch, you really shouldn't have opened this whole "past associations" can of worms, it doesn't play well for Obama at all. Maybe if you guys shut up and moved on, all of this stuff would be swept under the rug and forgotten, but you won't... you can't help yourselves. So we're going to have to bring it all out in the light and examine it, every sordid detail. My money is on Palin coming out looking better than Obama, as far as 'past associations' go.

Old dead issues which have been rehashed and rehashed my silly southern friend.

No meat on them old dead bones.

This is brand new news about your team.

LOL... Well, no Desh, there is meat on them dead bones. Facts are facts. Obama and Ayers did serve on the same board of the same Woods Trust Fund, and Ayers did contribute to Obama's senate campaign. This is a man who actually committed terrorism against our country, and is proud of it, on 9/11/01, he said he wished they could have done more! Oh yes, he and Obama were big buds in Chicago. And let's not forget Rezko, who was convicted of fraud and a whole host of other illegalities, after helping Obama fund his senatorial campaign.

It's "brand new news" about my team, because my "team" is a week old! The 'associations' you mention, are not brand new at all, in fact, they are over 18 years old. Obama was accepting Rezko money in 2001! That's much "newer" as 'past associations' go.

Rezko - I almost forgot that name.

Wasn't that supposed to be a "drip, drip, drip" story that would hurt Obama's chances all the way through election day?

How disappointing...

Yeah it is disappointing, who would've figured a pistol-packing mother of five would derail the Obama Express in less than two weeks, without ever having to mention Rezko, or Ayers? I was really looking forward to hearing the spin... how Obama didn't realize Ayers was a terrorist who had actually participated in bombing the Capitol and Pentagon, when he worked with him in Chicago.
