A video of teacher Mary Hastings hitting a student is spreading on the Internet.
Students recorded the video which they posted on social media.
That’s how school administrators found out about the incident.
Those few seconds of video led police to arrest Hastings. They took her to the Jefferson County Jail where she was charged with assault.
If convicted, Hastings could spend some time in jail.
The school district is condemning Hastings actions, and administrators have placed her on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The school district said in a statement it does not condone employees abusing any child and it would not tolerate that kind of conduct.
