A Texas school police officer has been placed on paid leave after video surfaced of him slamming a middle school girl to the ground.

A video uploaded to YouTube shows a uniformed officer lifting a struggling child into the air. He then appears to fling the girl face-down onto a brick walkway.

The officer responded after two students began arguing outside Rhodes Middle School on March 29, school district spokeswoman Leslie Price said.

“The video is very disturbing,” Price said, adding that the department has launched a formal investigation into the incident. “The officer was placed on leave this morning.”

Price confirmed that the officer in the video is Joshua Kehm, who has been with the department since February 2015. According to his LinkedIn profile, Kehm was previously in the Air Force.

So my knee-jerk reaction is the cop is SERIOUSLY in error. And then I watch it and see that she was clearly struggling before the take down, and we don't see what went on before.

And then I think back to the day my wife, a teacher, was body-slammed by one of her students because, "she was in the way" (a direct quote from the student as his reason for doing it), and I have to wonder what went on before he took her down.

I think it was definitely not the best way he could have taken her down, but we just don't know what went on from that brief video.

The San Antonio school district has fired a school police officer seen on a viral video body slamming a 12-year-old girl, saying his use of force was unwarranted.
