Supreme Court rules in favor of terror victims

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday in favor of victims of terrorism and their families in a 6-2 split, clearing the way for them to collect nearly $2 billion from the central bank of Iran. The court decided Congress had not exceeded its authority when it passed a law aimed specifically at securing such restitution. "(The law) provides a new standard clarifying that, if Iran owns certain assets, the victims of Iran-sponsored terrorist attacks will be permitted to execute against those assets," Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, writing the majority. The ruling comes at a sensitive time of U.S.-Iran relations, and as Congress considers controversial legislation that would allow families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia.

Wonder which acts they will sue for first.

Im a little unsure if SA would even agree to pay if they actually got taken.

We do need their oil, and the do need our money; but its not like there arent other countries willing to pay for it.
Can you imagine if China or whomever proposed for that oil? Or if they leveraged this to reduce our historical support of some countries?

Maybe Im talking out my nose here though.

We already are sitting on the Iranian money.

Stupid legislation. The legislative branch shouldn't control our foreign policy. Relations between nations should be strictly nation to nation, a certain nation should not use its weight to try and put it's citizens above other nations. It undermines the principle of sovereignty.

Obviously they probably would never comply with such an order through their own legal system. But Saudi assets in the US could be seized. This is a lot more significant for Saudi Arabia than for other nations like Palestine or Iran because Saudi Arabia has a giant ass sovereign wealth fund with huge investments in the US. That's part of the reason that Saudi Arabia responded by threatening to sell their US assets, that would massively reduce what could be seized.
