Supreme Court rebukes voting power of citizens

A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that illegal immigrants and other non-citizens can be counted when states draw their legislative districts, shooting down a challenge by Texas residents who said their own voting power was being diluted.

The ruling does not grant non-citizens power to vote, but says the principle of “one person, one vote” doesn’t require localities to only count those who are actually eligible to vote.

Because of illegal immigrants, other non-citizens and children under 18 years of age, state legislative districts in Texas can vary by as much as 40 percent.

Conservatives from Texas wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted to have more apportioned seats from counting illegal immigrants in the census, but to actually draw those districts in a way that only took into account conservative whites (in addition to their current scheme of massively gerrymandering the seats in their favor). They got shut the fuck down.

Since the country stupidly provides illegals with welfare this is the only outcome as this has as much to do with allocation of fed money as anything else.

In fact, illegal immigrants are barred from receiving welfare, food stamps, medicaid and are ineligible to benefit from the ACA. Sure they'll get emergency care if they walk into an emergency room at a hospital, but so does anyone.

Oh, and in 2013, illegal immigrants paid about $13 billion in payroll taxes that go to fund the social welfare programs that they cannot benefit from.

Now, I'm no fan of illegal immigrants. If they're not here legally they should go. They wouldn't be granted driver's licenses or IDs of any kind, either, were it up to me.

But to say that the country "provides illegals with welfare" is patently absurd and just makes you look stupid and uneducated.

Tell that to the states trying to pay for it.

I guess the fact that the constitution is quite clear on this score doesn't matter to the far right?

The Constitution assumed that the immigration laws would be enforced and that representation of everyone would by definition mean citizens or the US, not illegal immigrant invaders....

He has been told this on several ocassions, my guess is he chooses to remain willfully ignorant because it fits his narrative, while the facts don't

You're absolutely wrong. The constitution is clear that all people should be represented. This was essentially a political attempt to shift political power from urban areas to rural areas. This is clearly not what the U.S. Constitution intended.

Watermark is correct. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't insist on only counting registered voters for districting and gerrymandering purposes while insisting that all people be counted for legislative representation.

The only question is whether illegals are a whole or n 4/5th a person
