what is the cost of mental health care VS deaths due to the mentally ill
I clicked on the title of the thread thinking maybe this was a statement made by the crazed shooter in AZ on his blog or something... but no, it's a comment from our very own resident crazy loon! Let's hope you don't own a handgun!
First of all, the cost of mental health care is astronomical, and not feasible to provide free of charge for 300 million Americans. Any public attempt to try and provide this for the population, would be met with widespread abuse of the system, by people seeking drugs and meds. After all, when a person claims to be mentally disturbed, is there any way to prove them wrong?
Secondly... People who are legitimately crazy, and do things like the nut in Arizona, are not going to voluntarily get mental health care. Even if it were made completely free and easy... they still would not seek care, because they don't perceive themselves as having a mental problem, it's the rest of us who are crazy.
So, to answer the emotive question you were too chicken shit to ask, because you fully realized how utterly stupid it was... No, government provided mental health care, would not have prevented the tragedy in Arizona.
