The US and UK announced on Sunday they had flown diplomats out of the country.

Italy, Belgium, Turkey, Japan and the Netherlands said they were also organising evacuations, starting on Sunday.

A French convoy reportedly came under fire while trying to leave the embassy and had to turn back.

Sudan's regular army and its opponents - a paramilitary force called the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) - blamed each other for the attack.

When it comes to gold, far murkier deals appear to have been done with Russia's notorious Wagner group, which is accused of smuggling gold out of Sudan. The US Treasury has accused Wagner's head, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, of "exploiting Sudan's natural resources for personal gain and spreading malign influence" online through his "troll farm".

But he said the government's ability to evacuate other British nationals was "severely limited" until fighting between warring parties stopped.

Labour's shadow foreign secretary, David Lammy, praised military efforts to evacuate diplomats, but said he was "deeply concerned" about the welfare of British nationals who remained stuck in Sudan.

Some UK nationals in Khartoum have told the BBC they felt abandoned by the UK government in recent days.

Given that they UK let their (your?) military collapse to about nothing, and their military industrial complex as well so they cant rebuild, this increasingly is does not matter if true. The UK poilitcal leadership is about non existent as well.

The assholes are the Brit government. They are likely discussing which donor, or whose brother-in-law, gets the contract for the airlift.

I don't have a military.
