State of Conservatism

It's interesting to hear a conservative like Chris Caldwell say basically the same thing Paul Krugman said about the GOP. The party of know nothingism

Republicans, once hailed as the “party of ideas,” have become the party of stupid.

Now, I don’t mean that G.O.P. politicians are, on average, any dumber than their Democratic counterparts. And I certainly don’t mean to question the often frightening smarts of Republican political operatives.

What I mean, instead, is that know-nothingism — the insistence that there are simple, brute-force, instant-gratification answers to every problem, and that there’s something effeminate and weak about anyone who suggests otherwise — has become the core of Republican policy and political strategy. The party’s de facto slogan has become: “Real men don’t think things through.”

What unadulterated bullshit....the facts are completely the opposite.....

A healthcare bill that NO ONE understands is passed as a panacea for an imaginary healthcare crisis....

Trillions of dollars thrown at economic problems that only required a rethinking of the false notion that "banks must give loans to people that couldn't possible pay them back"

Unemployment benefits extended to 99 freakin' weeks and then they scratch their heads when its obvious workers would rather sit home and collect than work...(please don't be naive enough to deny this FACT)

Raising our national debt until its so extreme that the entire world economy is in jeopardy because the US is in REAL danger of bankruptcy......

Pushing "socialism" that is making our economy worse and worse....

Talk of allowing non-citizens to vote....

Refusing to enforce border laws....actually suing our own states by the federal government

GET A FUCKIN'CLUE BFGRN....

Its amazing that lib-tards can never argue actual issues. They always create a bogeyman like evil corporations, or misrepresent their opponents view then argue that.

I hated that Bush & the GOP owned the gov't for awhile, but the one silver lining that I thought could have come out of those years was a genuine commitment to reduce spending & balance the budget, and continue some of the efforts of the late 90's to make gov't smaller & smarter (to use a coined phrase).

Then, we had the first energy bill (pork town), the first transportation bill (pork city), a multi-trillion $ war and Dick Cheney preaching that "deficit spending doesn't matter." What a laughable state of affairs - the Reagan Revolution, for what is was worth, officially ended during Bush's tenure.

Now, you've got the Tea Party - a "new" movement to "take our government back!" I hate to be a hopeless cynic, but like any movement, it has already been co-opted by the extremists & the ideologues; the loudest in any group always seem to set the agenda. I keep hearing how the TEA candidates are "regular folks" and not "career politicians", but it's just deja vu all over again...

You are correct on this. Bush was never a conservative. And conservatism is what what we needed then and what we need now.

When are you going to quit making a fool of yourself by throwing Bush under the bus? You and the GOP walked in lock step with Bush to the very bitter end of his administration. Now you want to distance your self from his policies and ineptitude? That's a joke man. To say no one believes you and you have little credibility making that comment is a vast understatement.

Yes, I was simply responding to the trolling.... intelligence is defined by the topic being discussed, it is not defined by money or degrees. Many people with degrees are idiots. Many people without degrees are geniuses in their fields.

isn't it funny that for 8 years they couldn't see the truth about Bush/Cheney and backed everything he did without one bit of dissension, but it only took a couple of months for them to turn on him.

We understood that 'deficits DO matter' (disproving conservative trickle down-voodoo economics)
We understood that war for profit could only hurt this country.
We understood that conservative activist judges on the Supreme Court would create laws that would favor foreign corporations over American workers.
We understood that duct tape and plastic would not save you from the false charge that Saddam could attack us in 40 minutes.
We understood that outsourcing production to China would hurt Americans.
We don't believe the rich should be treated like royalty and they should pay their fair share.
It didn't take long to realize Bush's purpose as president was to enrich his base. You remember... the haves and the have mores. (if you don't I'll post the video again)

And worst of all they don't understand that the policies they backed for the last 30 yrs have gotten us into the mess we're in. And now they are trying to blame it on Obama, what a laugh.

Face it neocons you have no credibility.
