U.S. APPROVES ISRAELI TROOPS STAYING IN SOUTHERN LEBANON BEYOND DEADLINE
The U.S. has reportedly authorized Israeli forces to remain in parts of southern Lebanon past the Feb. 18 deadline, despite Lebanese opposition.
Under a U.S.-brokered truce, Israeli troops were supposed to withdraw after a 60-day period, while Hezbollah fighters were to leave, and Lebanese troops were to take control.
Israel had already secured one extension and recently requested another 10-day stay at 5 positions.
Now, Israeli officials say the U.S. has granted approval for a continued presence without specifying a new deadline.
