Real estate home sales down too. I thought Trump was real estate tycoon? I don't understand this failure?

Yeah - I'm sure you were saying that the stock market was booming when it TRIPLED under Obama, and that jobs were bouncing back when we had a RECORD # of quarters w/ growth in a row.

I keep asking this. From both sides. What policies did Obama enact (and now Trump) to bring the economy up? They both have something in common. Nothing. It is the businesses and consumers that decide the economy. Not the President. If this great country had to actually live and die by the economy based on our politicians actually doing something, we would have ceased to exist a long time ago.

When Obama passed the stimulus, the right on here & nationally were universally predicting that it would crash the economy further & that we were headed for a Depression.

I agree that there is only so much a President can do. But the stimulus did its job, and I'm a firm believer in that kind of economics when we're in a situation like 2009. Austerity would have killed us. The stimulus got people working at a time when businesses were terrified of hiring, and restored investor confidence. From there, the private sector took over.

I have to disagree Thing1. The stimulus did not help 99% of the businesses in this country. Small businesses in this country saw zero of that. And they hire more people than all the big businesses put together. True grit, as usual, pulled the U.S. out of that mess. All politicians on both sides do a lot of talking about what they do, but in reality it is always the citizens themselves that see it through.

That wasn't the point of the stimulus. It wasn't a career bill, or a bill to even create any kind of permanent jobs. That's why they rushed to get it passed - it was just supposed to stop the freefall and right the ship. It didn't matter where the jobs were created, or what kind of jobs they were. It just had to temporarily get hiring going again, and turn the market around.

Check & check. Without the stimulus, it would have been a much worse downturn.

I always enjoy your views on matters. This one we are going to politely disagree on though. That is what keeps conversations interesting though!

No problem-o. I'm not a big-spend guy in general, but I was very grateful for the stimulus. I understand that there are differing viewpoints on it, though.

Same with Obamacare, it was going to cause unemployment to skyrocket and the economy to flounder.... remember those days? Good times!

Yes it did. I took that free $6000 that Obama gave me for my beat up Ford Explorer and bought a new car from Ford, thereby saving Detroit.

The stimulus did work. Pukes won't admit Obama ever did anything though. Tribe tribe tribe.
