Apparently a ceasefire has been agreed, I can't help thinking that if Ariel Sharon wasn't in a coma and his party had come to power that there would have been a settlement by now.

The Fatah party, founded by Yasir Arafat, the Authority’s president until his death in 2004, was beaten in parliamentary elections in 2006 by Hamas, the militant group, and the following year Hamas gunmen drove Fatah out of Gaza and set up its own government there. Who can you blame but Israel for not cementing a deal whilst they had the chance?

As long as either side persists in thinking of itself as holy and the other as evil, Hamas and Israel will kill eachother until the end of time. Too much bad blood, and everybody knows somebody who lost somebody. Northern Ireland all over again.

Do you honestly believe that both sides consider themselves "holy"? I see this as a sovereign nation being attacked by religiomurdering Islamist gangsters. Nothing more.
