SILENCED: Florida bill would severely limit criticism of government

Under Governor Ron DeSantis, the Florida legislature seeks to edit the Bill of Rights, taking away the right of the press to criticize the government.

A newly-proposed piece of legislation, Florida HB 991 submitted by Republican State Representative Alex Andrade would rip that freedom from citizens and the press, by reframing certain criticisms as defamation, particularly if they come from anonymous sources.

No, bitch! Fuck no! Dude, up until the 90s it was exactly like that with the news. They couldn't do fake shit and slander people without a chance of seriously being sued.

The news could not slander people up until the 90s. They actually had to have a decent modicum of integrity or get sued for libel/slander.

The problem is I remember how it was before all that happened.

I read the OP, and it looks you're for the media slandering/libeling people under the guise of "anonymous sources".

Where am I wrong?

They should not be allowed to do that. Before the 90s they couldn't without getting their asses sued into the poorhouse.

It made for better and more honest journalism.

Fairly anti-1st amendment things happened to Alex Jones. He's not my favorite cracker and I don't want a gajillion ads for his "Testo-Stero 9000" snake oil.

The way Twitter, Google, and Facebook "deplatformed" him is anti 1st amendment.

"Oh! They're private entities" You say, but they're picking winners and losers, and that's dangerous.

They picked the winners and losers in the 2020 election, regardless of what the American people did. True Story.

It's a pretty far stretch for Republicans to claim they are protecting freedom when their idea of freedom is harassing others who are only exercising their own freedom to do as they please without harming anyone else.

The Republican idea of freedom is telling others how they must live.

This law would protect their 'freedom' to impose restrictions on others and not be called out for it.

What part of freedom meaning 'live and let live' do Republicans not understand?
