Should people be allowed to carry handguns openly?

Sure, just don't be surprised when the cops ask you why you're carrying them and ask to see a registration. If you're good with that, sure, carry your gun.

States that have registration rarely issue cards.

I know of no state that licenses or issues open carry permits that doesn't also issue a card. It is certainly within my right as a citizen to demand that I can be certain when I might see an open carrier that they have been through minimum safety in firearms training and checked out for non-felon status and mental stability purposes. There are certain people that have no rights whatsoever to carry or even own whether openly or not and the rest of us have a right to know about it.

Arizona has no such requirement and law abiding citizens can now carry concealed, without being issued a permit card.
So your desire to know anything, means nothing.

All that's required is for the law abiding citizen to answer truthfully, when asked if he or she has any weapons with them.

I love AZ.

I've waited over two years for one to come to market, be available, and at the right price. Finally I got a good enough deal on one at Christmas time and put the order in. And today I got the call, to go pick up my BRAND NEW KEL TEC RFB!

I have it next to me and a throbbing erection from carrassing it.

What do you want to bet that if one were to get pulled over for speeding in Arizona and the occifer found a pistol in the pocket of the speeder that individual would learn first hand how it feels to be face down on a Arizona highway? Law abiding citizen my ass.

has anyone asked the police how they feel about this law

i wonder what would happen if the police made a stop for a felony and the driver was packing

what is wrong with requiring people with hand guns to pass a firearms course and be of sound mind with no current felony convictions

Nothing is wrong with that expectation, Don. Full speed ahead.

I have been through many roadblocks conducted by various police officers. The key is "answer truthfully." Every single time the policeman or highway patrol has been appreciative of me being a "law abiding citizen." Some have even used that very phrase explaining to other patrolmen who have come to check on them while they were looking at my licenses.

Both felony checks and soundness of mind, as much as can be known, are checked instantly with the current background checks. I have no proble with such checks as long as they are instantaneous.

what is wrong with requiring people with hand guns to pass a firearms course ...

Now this part I have a problem with. More with the generic "people with handguns" part of it. As a requirement for my CCL I had to go to a one day class. I have no problem with this requirement for CCW and would highly recommend it, as in this class one is made aware of the laws affecting CCL holders and such things as making an officer aware of your weapon (answering honestly) are covered, as well as having the student demonstrate a knowledge of and ability to correctly us a handgun. Also instruction is given as to where you can carry and where you cannot. Of course the responsible carrier will keep up to date on the laws as they are prone to change over time. But to blanketly say that you must pass a course to just own a handgun is ridiculous, IMO.

I purchased my first side arm at the age of 12 and could in no way afford the cost of a class at that time. But the training and practice I got benefitted me greatly so that when I applied and got my CCL the course was no problem with me demonstrating a knowledge of a semi-auto handgun.

1) if it's a 'right' to carry, why would the cops be asking any questions?
2) do you know the requirements for a police officer to begin an investigation?

no it's not. show us where that right is written.

when should speeding be grounds to face plant a citizen posing no threat?

99% of them don't like it. How would you like your other rights to be judged by state agents?

i wonder what would happen if the police made a stop for a felony and the driver was packing
you ever seen a felony stop?

because it's none of your business when I exercise my rights.

Really!!
Then would you care to explain this:
Two weeks ago I was helping a friend close his shop and we headed back to his house; because I had left my van there.
When he pulled into his subdivision, a Patrol Car started following him.
It continued following him for 2 blocks, a left turn, 1 more block, another left turn, 2 more blocks, and when he pulled into his driveway, the Officer turned on the Red and Blues.
When the Officer approached the car, he asked if we had any weapons with us.
My friend said that he had a 40 caliber on the seat next to him and I told him that not only did I have a 9mm next to me; but I also had a 22 caliper revolver in my pocket.
The Officer asked for our ID's, gave them back, said he had stopped us; because my friend had forgotten to use his turn signals (which was true).
Told us he wasn't going to write a ticket and left.

We were never asked to surrender our sidearms.
We were never asked to exit the vehicle.
We were never asked to lay face down on anything.
NOW, why was that?

I'll wait patiently, while you try to make up a response. :)

Not a big fan of open carry.

I often wonder how the 2nd amendment would have been written if they could se the world as it is today.
