Modern day America. Brainwashed. Darn right it is shocking. A typical American has no friggin clue what it takes to feed oneself in other countries, nor the waste they generate that has effects on everything. Most just do not care.

The US wastes almost as food as it consumes...which is also too much.

I will disagree with you there. They are only providing for a market. Supply and demand. The American consumer is demanding much more than they need. Viscous circle.

Ok. Say you are correct. The average consumer I do not imagine enjoys spending more for food than they should. So this would come down to consumer education right? It was our government that demanded sell by dates on products. Maybe they should explain what that really means.
