Below T. Jefferson offers his take on the Religen portion of the First Amendment!

"...religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God,...he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."

Jefferson was da Man, and my fav. of the founding fathers!

Jefferson on the wrongness of universal public healthcare which forces all to pay for health:
"The care of every man's soul belongs to himself. But what if he neglect the care of it? Well what if he neglect the care of his health or his estate, which would more nearly relate to the state. Will the magistrate make a law that he not be poor or sick? Laws provide against injury from others; but not from ourselves. God himself will not save men against their wills." – Thomas Jefferson

I agree with the quote, I hate the government trying to protect people from themselves.

With regard to health reform... Its not about saving people from themselves, its about protecting the healthcare system from the uninsured.

Really its protecting the insured from the uninsured.

Nice hijack by the way!

When you are forcing people to buy healthcare insurance that they freely formerly chose NOT to buy, then how can you possibly view it as anything BUT trying to protect people from themselves?
If you really want to protect the insured then repeal the law that forces healthcare workers to treat the uninsured and make taxpayers pay.
2 wrongs don't make a right.

Although Jefferson became somewhat alienated by Christianity in his later years, after the Founding, he still could spell. :)

Mr. President

To messers Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.

Gentlemen

The affectionate sentiments of esteem & approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful & zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, and in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more & more pleasing.

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. [Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorised only to execute their acts, I have refrained from presenting even occasional performances of devotion presented indeed legally where an Executive is the legal head of a national church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect.] Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.

I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection and blessing of the common Father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves and your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.

(signed) Thomas Jefferson
Jan.1.1802.

Decleration of Independence 10th line from the bottom...

British is spelled "Brittish"

You mean "authorised". That's the way they spelled it back then. Maybe the same with Brittish, but I'm not sure. If so that make one spelling error after your long search.

Jefferson allowed federal buildings to be used for Christian services during his presidency. Now, there's some bitchin' wall of separation for you there!!

1) I dont have a problem with that as long as the Christian Groups has equal access as any other group.

Separation of Church and State! :palm:

You do not understand separation of church and state. It does not mean that government cant use religous buildings for a secular purpose or that religens cant use government buildings for a religous purpose, especally in a time of war. It merely means that the two cannot be intertwined. Many Churches meet in schools on the weekend, they can rent the buliding just like anyone else. The elementry school by my house has a pilgrimage of Jews walking to it every Saturday.

What you whakos do is refuse to have a logical argument about the issue and then throw out all of these silly examples that make no sense.....
