The Confederate flag will return to the S.C. State House.

The S.C. Secessionist Party plans to raise the banner during a rally.

Secessionist Party founder James Bessenger said, “We do it to honor those who left their homes, left their families, stood on bloody battlefields and sacrificed their lives for the sake of the people of South Carolina,” said Bessenger, who said his party has about 2,100 members. “They deserve honor, our gratitude and and our states’ respect.”

Several S.C. lawmakers said Thursday they saw no reason to stop the Secessionist Party from raising the Confederate flag banished after five decades at the State House.

“They have the right of free expression”, said state Sen. Chip Campsen, a Charleston Republican.

House Speaker Pro Tempore Tommy Pope, a Republican, compared the Civil War to the Vietnam War – a pair of conflicts that were not widely popular. “There were people who answered the call to serve regardless if not everyone agreed on the reasons,” he said.

America was founded on secession. The 13 colonies seceded from england. Are you opposed to that?

In the mid to late 1900s most of africa seceded from the european countries they were part of. Are you opposed to that.?

Nothing wrong with secession and the South had the right to secede and Lincoln was horribly wrong to kill 600,000 soldiers because he insisted states could not secede. THINK

Not all reasons for secession are created equal. Losing a presidential election is not tyranny. Especially when the south had controlled the presidency almost uninterrupted since 1801.

wouldnt that be up to the people to decide? if south carolinians opposed seccession then they wouldnt have been able to do it nor raise an army.

Unlike the colonists who defeated the British Empire with French help, the traitorous Confederates lost.

did you think there was before republicans were formed?

Did I say that?

You, on the other hand, did say that Democrats were the original racists, didn't you?

Do you know what "original" means"?

Stay on topic, or this thread will be moved to the war zone, where you will find all threads that devolve to back and forth insults.

The UK lost to the French in that particular bit of their long war, and therefore gave up control of some not-very-profitable colonies. The colonists didn't 'secede', though, since, like most British people, they had no voice in the UK government. After a peculiarly vicious bit of ethnic cleansing, they drove out most of the loyalists, giving them a majority for Independence. The South could genuinely have seceded if they had any kind of democracy, but they were in fact a racist oligarchy, and therefore lacked any proper popular mandate.

Well put.
