But I am not clear on how he should be responsible for her attitudes.

The issue is thus:

Is an individual legally responsible for the actions of his or her spouse?

Should an individual lose his or her job and profession because of something his or her spouse said?

I know this answer is not going to be what you want to hear, but I cannot agree with either of those.

Agreed. That's what a good person would do.

A good person caught in a scandal resigns out of respect for the office held. Like Al Franken.

A bad person caught in a scandal denies it, attacks others, and defiantly remains in office and retains power. Like Trump. Like Thomas.

So we don't want bad people in office.

And that is why it is so important that we have a functional government and the well informed, actively engaged, respectful, effectively communicating populace necessary to support it. Since being bitterly divided prevents that, it is imperative that we strive to communicate our views with others on the basis of mutual respect.

Agreed. SCOTUS justices should not be taking political sides.

If he was a good person like Al Franken he would resign.

I don't think he is.

And I don't think there is any law which could be the basis for an impeachment.
