Schumer to introduce marijuana decriminalization bill - CNN

If only big pharma didn't control both parties... This is a dog and pony show to shore up support for Dems in the mid terms, then it will be dropped like a sack of hot potatoes.

Here's the thing: marijuana WILL be legal in most of America within the next decade, and probably all of the country at some point beyond that.

It's a state of denial to not realize that. So why do politicians fight it? Legalize it now.

Not even close. Legal dope is much more expensive than smuggled dope. Once again our government did not think this through.

You have no idea how the price of one will affect the the price of the other.

Smuggling will still carry a high legal cost for those who get caught. Plus, because it's no longer a criminal offense, people will just be able to grow their own right in their back yards and pay nothing.

Close enough for all intents and purposes to the average person.

Means you can't get arrested for simple possession or sale of small amounts anymore.

No it doesn't. It still means you can get arrested for sales (commerce) and it can still be used as a pretext for asset forfeiture or other searches and seizures of property and effects.

Will he follow through.

Will the dem congress critters turn their mythical pro pot meme into reality?

How can he, when the people you voted for and support (aka, Trump, Sessions, and the conservative Republican Congress) are largely anti-legal marijuana and control all the levers of power and policy making?

Obviously if you're selling weed by the pound or kilo, you would be subject to criminal liability. But decriminalization of possession and sale of small amounts like an ounce or less means exactly what it says... it's no longer a criminal offense and thus, you cannot be arrested for it. Maybe a $100 fine.

As far as asset forfeiture and seizure, even now they have to make the case that you were engaged in criminal enterprise of a scope that allowed you to purchase the property with the proceeds from it.

They aren't going to seize your house because you sold your buddy from work a couple of grams of buds or had one or two plants growing in your back yard.

You place a lot of faith in police not abusing their power.
