Scalia & Ginsburg show all of us how it's done

I love this article. I can identify with a lot of it. I am sure many of you can. I mean, as someone that has (I can admit) very extreme views on a lot of things, I have a lot of liberal friends. I am pretty much forced to in a state like massachusetts. If politics were all that existed, there is no way I could function in a society. Most people couldn't. I think we all sometimes forget.. with the media and fear mongering and how every election is jacked up into a life or death thing...we forget that politics really isn't EVERYTHING in life, and in the grand scheme of things is actually pretty small.

It was Ginsburg who wrote the landmark 1996 case, United States v. Virginia. The opinion struck down the all-male admissions policy at the Virginia Military Institute. Scalia dissented, but he offered her an advanced look at his dissent in order to improve her majority opinion.

She often said that having the dissent ruined her weekend but made her final product better.

This quote is the best. I think this goes to show that though many on here want to laugh at scalias death and piss on his grave, he truly cared about our country, laws, and the system in which he functioned. He had the attitude of... "if I am going to be defeated and lose, I am going to lose to the best fucking damn argument that is possible." He made his opposition better. Even when it went against him, he helped to elevate the court to a higher standard. This is why I liked scalia even though I didn't agree with some of the things he ruled on. Same reason why I like bernie sanders now even though I basically disagree with him on 95% of things. Notice anything consistent about me yet? I value true believers, I value those that are truly (in their minds) striving for greatness and the betterment of society. I think scalia had that in spades.

Many liberal judges I don't believe care about the constitution. I openly see progressives these days mocking the idea of listening to a "bunch of old dead white guys." Don't deny it, I see it everywhere. To a modern progressive, their selfish ideals are what is supreme, and they will do whatever it takes to advance them. I truly believe many liberal justices do not serve in good faith.

a good lesson that not everything has to be full scale all out partisan warfare. recognizing the other side has true intentions for the best for the USA
allows the hyper-partisanship to be replaced by a spirit of cooperation. Once you get that, compromise is possible

It doesn't surprise me that the justices get along with one another. They're appointed for life and are pretty much cloistered together much of the time.

Quite the powerful little club they have.

Do they really get along or simply tolerate each other?

Certainly some of both. They're as human as us lol. No doubt they like to spar mentally with one another, sort of like some of us do, sans the trolling. Given the human elements, I have to think even the liberals would quickly tire of agreeing with one another and secretly wish for a conservative appointment to replace Scalia, just to keep things interesting.

What they call conservative isn't the same as what conservative really is.

It bears repeating - you can disagree w/ someone without being disagreeable. In fact, you can even be great friends with someone, even though you're both on opposite sides of the spectrum:

Congress should pay attention.

It's important to remember that everyone wants what is best for the country. We just disagree on how to get there.

Obama should have tried it at least once....

All of that sounds good in theory but when you are dealing with immoral fucks (liberals) that have no guiding principles other than winning at all costs then it is crazy to unilaterally disarm. This is war

I can not respect someone who hates others for no good reasons

gays, blacks,women or short people

it is just evil

scalia may have been a fun guy to go to dinner with but he was still an evil man.

I dont need friends who have evil souls
