Saudis threaten to sell $750 billion US assets if Congress passes bill that would let 9/11 victims sue Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia threatened to sell up to $750 billion worth of US assets held by the Kingdom if Congress passes a bill that would allow the Saudi government to be sued over 9/11, reports The New York Times' Mark Mazzetti.

Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir, personally passed on the message last month during a trip to Washington, according to The Times.

The foreign minister was referring to the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, (JASTA) which would let victims of 9/11 and other terrorist acts sue foreign sponsors of terrorism.

As Vice News noted when it was reintroduced in September, the Senate bill would pave the way for a lawsuit to proceed over Saudi Arabia's alleged role in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Let em sell the assets, someone else would buy them.

I don't think it would be easy to prove Saudi Arabia's involvement. Seems kind of silly, especially nearly 15 years later.

It probably would be very difficult but it would rattle a few cages in the process.

What benefit would it be to America or those who lost loved ones on 9/11? Seems it would be near impossible to prove their involvement. If the US knew about it and covered it up, we would likely never find out. If the US did investigate SA without bias and found nothing, what are a few lawyers going to find out?
 
I think anyone who paid attention to the protection of high level Saudi's in the aftermath of 911 that there was a covert cover up on the extent and scope of the Saudi governments involvement in 911 and that if the American public had known the public outcry for military retaliation would have been over whelming and the consequences would have been huge.

I believe that it was no coincidence that 911 occurred when we had a President from a powerful political family with strong ties to the house of Saud and the oil industry.
 
I have always been somewhat familiar with the Saudi connection because it is frequently cited by the Truthers. The article is quite a compilation of the history involved (I found the Maj Nidal Hassan connection to be most fascinating).

Individuals have no right to sue a sovereign state. This should always be managed as a state to state interaction. The legislative branch shouldn't get to manage our foreign policy.
