Will Satan be celebrated on the lawn of the Oklahoma State Capitol?


A devilish group based in New York believes it should be perfectly OK.


The group, which calls itself "The Satanic Temple," today unveiled its proposal for a monument it intends to erect next to another religious statue: a depiction of the Ten Commandments.


According to The Satanic Temple's application, the proposed monument features a large pentagram and “a 7-foot tall goat-headed Baphomet that sits cross-legged flanked by a child on both sides. The lap will serve as a seat for visitors.”

Oklahoma state legislators in 2009 approved the installation of a privately-funded Ten Commandments monument. It was installed last year over the protests of the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. The Satanic Temple wasn’t the only group to apply for a monument; People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and a Hindu group have also requested a place near the Capitol steps.


"Either way you cut it, this is a First Amendment issue," Greaves said. "Once they open that door, they can't discriminate."

That's all well and good and all but I would be a lot less against it if it were a "devilish group" based in OK. What do a bunch do New Yorkers care about Oklahoma other than to stir up a stink? I hope they do succeed...it's just another symptom of how depraved our society is becoming. And it will be there for me to point at.
 
Carpetbagging statues? Why don't they put this up in New York next to where that huge Saturnalia Tree goes every year?

at least they decided to go with a misaligned pentacle instead of an upsidedown cross.......

I expect though that there will have to be design changes before it goes public.....can you imagine how many human sacrifices they would find impaled on those horns if they went through as proposed?......

Or maybe they are pushing the religious freedoms thing? I don't know any other state that has violated the first amendment as far as separating the church and state than OK. Are there more states?

If OK allows a Christian Icon, they ought to provide for every religion to have their icons out there. Do you agree?

I would limit it to groups who are citizens of the State at the very least. Otherwise I'd largely agree. This idea that people from New York don't like the current statue therefore want to add something somewhere else is just obnoxious. Let Oklahoma satanists erect a statue, if the New York folks want one they can erect one in New York.

Do you think that we should add satanic symbols on the SCOTUS building in DC, or is it just states that politically disagree with you that you want to make an example of?

Why? It's a federal right for everyone...one state fails to uphold the constitution,then all states have the right to be involved in their federal rights.

You can't restrict the rights of people from out of state.

Yes! I think their benches should be the goat man chair design!

I would have my picture taken in that chair.

I agree though, this gesture would have more meaning if the local Satanist were doing it. I really hate outside influences in state matters! If it were a federal building it would be different.
