San Francisco Old Navy to become latest store to shut down in crime-ridden city

Old Navy has held a lease at the 801 Market St. location since 1997 and held a grand opening for the store in 1999. A spokesperson for Old Navy's parent company, San Francisco-based Gap Inc., said the way the company "leverages" its flagship locations has changed.

"We have taken the difficult decision to close our Market Street store when the lease expires, and we are already working to identify new locations in Downtown San Francisco that will better serve the needs of the business and our customers," the spokesperson said.

I don't know for sure why Lefty's closed, but I think I read that the building owner could get higher rent for the space and wanted it.

Capitalists have no respect for historic landmarks, but to me, Lefty's certainly rose to that standard.

Right across the street from the St. Francis Hotel, it was about the most inexpensive place to eat
in an extremely expensive city, and I loved the old, yellowed sports pictures--I guess we call that "sepia"- on the wall. Some of
them brought back memories of games and boxing matches that I remember seeing as a young boy.

Plus Lefty himself was a great baseball player, albeit before my time.

At least I have the polo shirts that I bought in the gift shop.
I'm glad that I got a couple for myself and not just for gifts.

Really would that standard include public corruption?

Allegations Against SF Restaurant Owner Suggest That Crime Might Not Always Pay
Nick Bovis faces 20 years in jail for multiple failed plots

It’s been a week since news broke that San Francisco restaurateur Nick Bovis, the owner of well-liked local dives like the Gold Dust Lounge and Lefty O’Doul’s, had been arrested as part of a federal investigation into alleged corruption, misconduct, and kickbacks at some of the highest levels of city hall. As more details of the investigation have been reported, members of the city’s dining public have gotten a revealing look into how restaurants may — or may not — be chosen in some of the city’s most trafficked locations.

It is the Brown Shirt socialist pigs that are well know for tearing down and defacing historic landmarks. Burning down businesses and neighborhoods. Big Gov't Forcing business owners out of business by locking up their, sometimes century old, bars and restaurants during covid.
