I believe college should be free to all who can make the grades. And ALL children given the opportunity to try.

you're an absolute moron, you know that? The core value of conservatism (classic conservatism) is to be able to make your own wealth, which of course means that education can only help that along.

I understand what you are saying. Making money drives education. But what happens when you don't have money for an education? When after 30 yrs of conservative cheap labor ideology you can't find enough work to support yourself and a 40% increase in your education costs? Go $80,000 in debt that you know you'll never be able to pay off in a near depression economy?

You guys remind me of Bush I when he didn't realize grocery stores used scanners.

The UC Regents are a horrible beauracratic (sp) mess. It is not surprising the way they are run that they must hike fees the way they do.

it's called picking up a book and reading it. I did it. In 1992, the only thing I knew about computers was how to play games. so I picked up a book, then learned how to build computers, then picked up another book and learned how to provide support for DOS, windows 3.1, and windows 95. Now, I know how to provide network load balancing for major companies like verizon AND I never went to college or vocational school.

teh point I proved is that an individual CAN make their own way and provide their own education. Had I not taken my own initiative to learn new skills, I would not be in a position to save even a little bit of money for a higher education.
