Yeah, there are plenty of places that discriminate, sometimes even breaking the law. But the establishment doesn't go after them, because they don't care. Anti-discrimination laws are mostly about keeping white people from having their own spaces.

Once again, if the gym is privately-owned and not open to the general public the owner can do as he/she wants. There's no reason why you can't buy your own apartment building and only rent to your friends. However, if you advertise open rentals, then you cannot discriminate against protected classes of citizens.

Real religious people would back gay marriage, They are simply acting as god made them. I would think Christians would be proud of that. And as Carlin said, they are one group that you can guarantee will not have abortions.
 
Civil rights laws don't prohibit any discrimination. It must be on the basis of race, gender, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, disability. Sexual preference is not included in federal laws but it is in many states.

It does not apply to all businesses but public accommodations with businesses with 15 or more employees. It does not apply, for example, to a small boarding house but does to most housing.

Some, for example Title IX, only apply to those higher ed institutions that receive some type of federal assistance (like one student who gets a Pell Grant).
