A white former St. Louis police officer was found not guilty of first-degree murder in the death of a black man who was shot to death during a 2011 high-speed chase.

The encounter began when Stockley and his partner tried to corner Anthony Lamar Smith in a fast-food restaurant parking lot after seeing what appeared to be a drug deal. Stockley testified he saw what he believed was a gun, and his partner yelled "gun!" as Smith backed into the police SUV twice to get away.

Smith, a parole violator with previous convictions for gun and drug crimes, tried to run over the two officers. Stockley fired seven shots as Smith sped away. A chase ensued.

At the end of the chase, Stockley opened fire only when Smith, still in his car, refused commands to put up his hands and reached along the seat. Stockley found a revolver stuffed between the center console and passenger seat.

Stockley, 36, could have been sentenced to up to life in prison without parole. He left St. Louis' police force in 2013 and moved to Houston.

Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson, who oversaw the bench trial, said prosecutors also asked the court to consider a lesser degree of homicide. Wilson said prosecutors did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt the officer’s use of deadly force was not justified.

“This court, as a trier of fact, is simply not firmly convinced of defendant’s guilt,” the judge wrote in his ruling.

I don't get it. Why was this an issue for black people are why are they protesting. Based on the facts presented, he was clearly guilty.

I guess if you're black, you should be allowed to get away with crimes? :dunno:
 
every major case of this nature the person killed always majorly fucked up. Trayvon was criminally and viciously assaulting george zimmerman who committed no crimes. Brown reached for Wilsons gun and tried to murder him merely for being told to get out of the street. Rodney king was driving under the influence and led police on a dangerous high speed chase that put many peoples lives in danger. There could have been no greater justice other than King being killed that night by having his face stomped. They defended OJ for essentially severing his ex-wifes head off her body.

They are never defending some straight laced kid caught up in the system. Never just a normal citizen who is clearly innocent. Every single time with these cases it's always some thug criminal piece of shit. Why can't they find better people to hold up as their heros?

I saw the video of him backing up his car and almost hitting both of the Cops.

Stokley's partner yelled out "GUN"; but the triggered liberal snowflakes want to try and make everyone believe that a gun was planted.

I had on some reporter on FOX last night who was interviewing the demonstrators..it was peaceful enough that early in the night.

He interviewed some black guy who had self confessed 3 heroin dealing convictions.
The black heroin dealer was saying the cop got off because he was white, and the black dead guy was killed because he was black

I have no idea if that's true, and if it is, I don't need to worry about it. It's irrelevant now.

The judge has ruled.

If you have fresh evidence, by all means bring it to the attention of the court.
