Russia planning to take its claims against UK to UN Security Council
Moscow has signalled it will speak to the UN Security Council about its accusations that a Royal Navy unit was behind blasts along a key gas pipeline.
It made the dramatic claims earlier today and accused the UK of "terrorism".
Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow wanted to "draw the international community's attention... to a series of terrorist attacks" and highlight "the UK's involvement".
Meanwhile, the UK's Ministry of Defence said Russia was peddling "false claims of an epic scale".
It said Moscow was trying to "detract from the disastrous handling of the illegal invasion of Ukraine".
British military experts have said the Royal Navy would not have the capability to carry out the attacks along the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines.
The key pipelines carry Russian gas to Germany and have been used to supply much of Europe.
