DNIPRO, Ukraine, and MOSCOW — Russia announced a troop withdrawal from the key Ukrainian city of Kherson on Wednesday, in what would be a major blow to President Vladimir Putin's war effort. But the government in Kyiv was skeptical of the move.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday he ordered troops to retreat from Kherson to the eastern bank of the Dnipro River on the recommendation of the commander of Russia's forces in Ukraine, Gen. Sergei Surovikin.

"The decision to defend on the left bank of the Dnipro is not easy, but at the same time we will save the lives of our military personnel and the combat capability of our forces," Surovikin said in televised remarks as he presented a report on the Russian military campaign to Shoigu.

The announcement drew skepticism from Ukraine's government, which has previously suggested Russia could pretend to pull out of Kherson to lure Ukrainian forces into battle.

Im not surprised. Russia seems to have changed its tactics from fighting for cities outright to destroying the power grid. Its more effective too as they are now discussing evacuating Kiev.

This is still a big humiliation for Putin though. I would expect him to step up attacks on Ukranian power plants to show Russia progress is still being made.

I not sure about Ukraine’s corruption but Russia is just a mafia like run country . I’m enjoying watching Russia look like idiots I do feel sorry for some of their soldiers though but the war crimes that some of them are committing are horrific. One woman told of ding raped by multiple men a day. Then there are mass murders . Putin need to pay.

Common speculation is that Putin is going to blow the dam that he mined, and flood several town/villages after they are evacuated.

I grew up during the Cold War, so I always assumed there was some core of principles that would allow them to defeat the Germans, and give us a good fight. Instead, I see a country that arms its troops with fake tin helmets, and Airsoft ballistic vests.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has been able to execute mission command better than any military I have ever seen. They have a military of committed, intelligent, free soldiers. The free is important in that.
