"rural America is heavily subsidized by urban America."

The truth is that rural America is heavily subsidized by urban America. You can see this by looking at states’ federal balance of payments — the difference between federal spending in a state and the amount a state pays in federal taxes.

There have been many articles written about how Democrats need to reach out to rural voters, and of course they need to keep trying. But rural perceptions are so much at odds with reality, and rural America is becoming so monolithic politically, that it’s hard to imagine that they’ll have much success.

I don't mind my tax money going to Red States to help out the desperately poor. Americans are all people and we should care for each other. We can disagree over policy but in the end there's always going to be someone who is forced to be "the adult" in the relationship and be willing to pay for the mistakes of the other side.

NOT because we are somehow "better"...but because ONE DAY those states that pay more into federal than they get back out will need help. Where I live may one day have a devastating earthquake and then someone, maybe even a Red Stater, will have to pay some money to help ME out.

If I've done my job and helped them out when they needed it then I've done all that I can.

But, "While rural woes are real, however, it’s hard to see how supporting right-wing politicians makes sense as a response to these woes. Republicans in Congress have made it clear that if they take control, they will try to slash the safety-net programs that do so much to support rural America. "

Sure. We know the GOP doesn't care about the poor. It's sad that the people most in need (and who often get the most in federal aid) don't realize that their support of those politicians is counter to their own personal good. But I can't force someone to think through their position. Certainly me withholding necessary help isn't going to convince them to change their ways.

The only thing that saves America is that the Republican mindset ultimately soften to include care for others who are not us. I'm certain at one point it had that component.

I have no idea what kind of rural America you guys are talking about but it sure doesnt describe mine. Most of you city dwellers could never afford to live here for one thing. In fact,...my area has quite a few city dwellers that retired here,....but only after a lifetime of work and the sale of their city home or they would never have been able to do it. Put it this way. My best friend put his home up on a Thursday and sold it on Saturday for 1.4 mill. Bought a home in Destin Florida for 8 large that would have been well over a mil here. What many of you dumb fucks fail to understand is there are many different versions of Rural. :) Is some of it the stuff of Beverly Hillbillys lore? Sure, I bet it is. BUT a whole lot of it is so much better than you could ever imagine. this isnt 1932 anymore. Might be time for some of you to get out and see a few things. ;)

Then JPP posters will not have to complain about federal money going to the red states.

GOP was always about helping the rich.

This is the reason our schools get so much less state aid than schools in urban areas. It is based off of property values and ours are thru the roof.

This really shows how totally stupid and naive you truly are.

Typical MAGA moron response...no evidence beyond what they can pull out of their brains, err butts.

Let me just pull the rug out from this Stone brained windbag:
