That was disgusting, I will not be flying United Airlines anytime soon! If I was already seated on the plane, I'm not giving up my seat because some damn computer picked my name?!! They would have to escort me of the plane too!

Airlines overbooking is part of the economic model. Not having enough seats happens all the time and usually it is peacefully resolved as they find a few people willing to take the vouchers and catch a later flight.
If they didn't kick this guy off, everyone would be pissed that they couldn't take off and were going to be late going to wherever.

What is more disturbing is that when the man refused to the point that they had to grab him, that no one else on the entire plane stood up and volunteered to avoid the whole thing.
Surely a few people out of a plane load could have certainly stayed an extra night, got some serious cash and enjoyed a hotel stay. What have we become?
