George Zimmerman, who is being held on a second-degree murder charge in the February shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, and his wife actively sought to avoid government scrutiny of their financial assets, as contributions poured into Zimmerman's legal defense fund, bank statements showed.

The statements were released on Monday by the Seminole County Circuit Court following the arrest on perjury charges last week of Zimmerman's wife, Shellie Zimmerman.

Geez, what a sleaze bag. The more we hear about him the worse it gets. He's constructing a pretty good chain of evidence to show he'll lie when he's up against the wall.

You mean that Hispanic Obama voter lied about his assets?

Paging Charlie Rangel

Zimmerman's $150,000 bond was revoked and he went back to jail earlier this month after prosecutors said the couple had misled the court about their financial status.

They failed to tell the court about more than $135,000 that donors had contributed to help pay for Zimmerman's legal defense, and Shellie Zimmerman falsely testified at her husband's April 20 bond hearing that the family was broke, prosecutors said.

The bank records, from separate credit union accounts, show Zimmerman and his wife made dozens of transactions between April 11 and April 20 just under the $10,000 limit that triggers government scrutiny under federal anti-money laundering laws.

Some were overlapping, as George transferred a total of $74,000 to Shellie, and Shellie transferred more than $85,500 back to George. All were in amounts between $9,000 and $9,999.

Another $47,000 was transferred to an account held by Zimmerman's sister...

Zimmerman's lawyer tried to hide the facts, too:

On the same day prosecutors released six phone calls made by George Zimmerman to his wife while he was in jail, his lawyer asked the judge in the case to keep dozens of other calls private.

Prosecutors had been set to release 145 additional calls on Monday, but delayed after learning of Mark O'Mara's objection.

The motion filed by the defense lawyer, however, focused unexpectedly on another piece of evidence in the case; a second statement made by one of the witnesses.

The witness, identified as "Witness 9" in prosecution documents, has not been publicly identified.

One of her two statements has been withheld from the public so far, and O'Mara argues it should stay that way.

In her first statement, Witness 9 says that she knows Zimmerman, as well as his family.

"I know George, and I know that he does not like black people," she said, speaking to a Sanford police investigator.

"He would start something. He's a very confrontational person. It's in his blood. Let's just say that."

She went on to describe Zimmerman and his family as "just mean and open about it, and I don't know what he's capable of, but I do know things that he's done to me that I would never, I would never talk to him about ever again."

O'Mara writes in his motion that the not-yet-released second statement "is not relevant" to the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, and "would not be admissible" at trial.

O'Mara argues that its release would "serve to reignite and potentially enhance the widespread public hostility toward Mr. Zimmerman."

O'Mara doesn't specify what he finds objectionable about the statement.
