Rick Perry blames Obama and media ‘snakes’ for revelations that Chris Kyle lied about service record

Rick Perry blames President Barack Obama and “snakes” in the media for apparent discrepancies in “American Sniper” Chris Kyle’s military service record.

The former Navy SEAL, who was known as the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history, apparently earned about half as many medals as he claimed in his book — despite warnings from at least one commanding officer about the inaccuracies.

The Intercept reported on those inconsistencies last week, including quotes from several Navy SEALs and military officials — and Perry has joined a number of conservatives who have attacked the website but have been unable to prove the late Kyle’s claims.

“If there is any inaccuracy in Kyle’s account it’s that he didn’t take ENOUGH credit for his awards,” wrote Perry, the former Texas governor and failed Republican presidential candidate.

Kyle claimed in his book to have been awarded two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars, “all for valor” — but internal Navy documents obtained by the Intercept showed he earned only one Silver Star and three Bronze Stars with Valor.

Navy officials confirmed that service record, and Perry called for “seemingly indifferent” military officials to be punished for complying with the federal Freedom of Information Act by sharing public records.

“I am calling on people of conscience to join me in calling for the retraction and deletion of the offending article and reprimand of the Navy personnel who have fed this misperception with their lackadaisical handling of the original information request,” Perry said.

The former governor recognized that his demands potentially violated constitutional law, but waved away those concerns with some unsubstantiated claims.

“This request might seem odd from someone who is committed to the constitutional freedoms our military fights to defend, but freedom of speech and deliberate libel are two entirely different things,” Perry said.

He compared the report to urban myths about hippies spitting on returning Vietnam War veterans — and blamed the whole affair on President Barack Obama, as he so often does.

“Perhaps it’s a byproduct of nearly eight years of an arch-liberal in the Oval Office combined with an American population increasingly disconnected from the men and women who serve in the military,” Perry said.

Good grief that makes no sense, why is it Obama's fault that Kyle lied?

Where does it say he wants to prosecute those who " printed the truth about Kyle's TRUE service record."?

I don't see that in the article, but I see Zappas claiming it. Is this another Marco is a Mexican claim?

His actions could be a constitutional violation if they claims are true. If Kyle told the truth, then there is no constitutional violation. Essentially, he is just bringing a defamation action.

You guys are a bunch of whiny cry babies.

Although Perry didn't specifically use the term "prosecute".

"Deliberate libel" is a prosecutable crime.

Point out where he said he wanted to prosecute those who printed the information or prosecute anyone. Stop dodging and do it.

Show me the law in Texas where it says deliberate libel is procecutable.

Is that Texas law and where is the link?

Also, it says may be criminal, how do you know he meant criminal and not civil? Are you a mind reader?

I realize it's important for you to keep the discussion focused elsewhere.

You certainly can't admit that Tightie Rightie hero Kyle LIED about his commendations or Rick Perry for the idiotic thing he said.

Elsewhere? Your OP made the claim and you keep repeating it. Not surprisingly you deflect your topic, you can't even answer whether in Texas it is criminal, nor how you know he was referring to criminal prosecution.

At this point, I don't know if he lied. So why would I condemn him without knowing all the facts?

I'm sure you will continue to deflect and pretend you never said Perry wanted to prosecute those who printed the allegations.

Chris Kyle saved countless American soldiers lives and was a hero. I honestly don't know a lot about military paperwork and so I asked my uncle who was a marine, my dad who was in the corps at A&M and the army, and my brother who is currently in the corps at A&M and they all said that it could easily be a clerical error since his discharge papers reflect what Kyle said and are not easy to forge and sometimes aren't inputted correctly or in a timely way after they leave the military, especially if the award wasn't submitted properly through the ranks. Ultimately given Kyle's service to our country, his documented acts of valor, and the fact that he has passed away we should give him the benefit of the doubt in my opinion. It seems kind sketchy to me that this would come out around Memorial Day as well. Seems like an unneccesary slap in the face and a way to smear someone in my personal opinion.

I don't know what the truth is, but if he did lie, that should be brought to light. Liberals though are quick to believe anything negative about him. Is it because they hate true American heroes who are conservative?

Just like Zappas ran away from claiming Marco is Mexican, he is now running away from his comments here. Seems he does that when people prove him wrong.

Next he will claim I'm trying some gotcha game. He really believes that he can say anything and that when questioned about what he said, he whines you're just engaging in gotcha games.

Crybaby.

Your opinion is wrong. :)

Kyle lied, and then he died.
