Defying party leaders, Republican Todd Akin did not withdraw by Tuesday’s deadline from the Senate race in Missouri...

Can someone clarify something. My wife and I have been somewhat taken aback by the statement of this Akin chappie.
Do American schools actually teach this sort of nonsense? Akin says he got it from a doctor. A qualified doctor? Someone who has studied medicine for maybe six years and passed his relevant examinations? Akin obviously thought that other people shared his views! But how, in the name of small pieces of cheese, does he arrive at that? Does anyone else honestly believe that the human body has evolved to the point that it can differentiate between genuine rape and 'copy' rape?

You assume that Akin accepts the validity of the theory of evolution.

Many rightwingers reject science when it clashes with their religious or ideological beliefs.

Akin's belief is not unique, or even unusual.

In fact, he may win election with the support of like-minded voters in Missouri.

Oh wonderful, a generalization to frighten, thread...\\\\()//// You are laughably ridiculous....

Are you frightened by Todd Akin's refusal to pull out in time?

I think that politics is in a state where a race like Akin's is one that a single stupid comment will be blown up to eclipse everything else, and lose the seat to a woman that has no business in Washington DC representing anyone.

So you disagree with Rep. Akin's statements on rape, or his views on abortion?

BTW, Sen. McCaskill was elected by the people of Missouri.

Why do you think she "has no business in Washington DC representing anyone"?

Is it because she's a woman?

Anyone intelligent is agast at the authoritarian idiocy demonstrated by American tighty righties so you and your wife are on target. This man is an example of the religious wackery that is our largest export, lookout world! It's been discovered that this 'belief' is based here and is common knowledge on the right. They're a bizarre group of throwbacks that cling to such things in order to justify their horrendous policy.

No school engaged in legitimate scientific teaching would give Akin and his "theory" the time of day. However, I wouldn't put it past some wacko fundie curriculum to teach this. The same kind of pseudo-scholarship that states humans co-existed with dinosaurs and that the earth is only 6000 years old.

It's more than just a single stupid comment. It's a comment that shows his entire belief system about rape and about the workings of the female body. It's a travesty that this man is actually on a committee for science, space and technology.

No. This is not taught in our schools. These are views that are considered way outside the mainstream of even conservative ideology and have no basis what so ever in biology.

Ah yes, well apparently the majority of voters in Missourri don't agree with you.
