Republican PC police...

*sigh*

Again, it does not significantly change what I said about it. It was stupid to say it, especially if your wife is running for President, defending it is worthless. Even worse you use an attempt to attack the messenger, attempting to defend through distraction.

I have not disagreed that it was a stupid thing to say. It was not however a racist thing to say.

I always have been. My father was a Republican until he outgrew the upbringing of his parents. His parents were VERY conservative, but were also Democrats because of the Civil War.
So your grandparents supported slavery. Why am I not surprised?

And that's not a conservative position, so once more you are confused.

The modern conservative has the same position as the Founders: "all men are created equal". The GOP was created to enforce that position, and resulted in the Democrat Party taking up arms against us. We kicked their asses, so they formed a terrorist organization, the KKK. We kicked their asses again, so they changed tactics and created welfare programs, public housing, crappy public schools and affirmative action to keep the black man down, all the while promoting themselves as his benefactor.

But gee, didn't the founders believe that a black man only counted as 3/5ths of a white man?

That don't sound like "all men are created equal" to me.

You are brainwashed into thinking its only Democrats, but this example illistrates that the source of PC is any polititian, r or d who chooses to try to make political points out of unfortunant statements.

....no, this example illustrates how easy it is to show that Democrats are well prepared to abandon their demands for political correctness when it is a fellow Democrat who breaks their rules......

in fairness, that was the compromise suggested by Madison, whose party gradually evolved into what we call Democrats today......their main objection to counting the slaves in total was that it would in fact require them to pay taxes upon their property, whereas those in the north would only have to pay a head tax......today, the Democrats are still trying to get others to pay their taxes for them......nothing changes....

you're older than I thought.....did your grandfather fight for the Union or Confederacy.....

Actually, the Southerners who later became Democrats wanted to count all their slaves as people to give them representative power in congress, and at the same time refuse them the right to vote along with basic rights that we now call civil rights. The Northerners who would later become Republicans called bullshit on this, but understood that they needed The South for defense against England. The negotiations languished for years before a compromise was made.

You should read up on your history.

Not true, the South wanted them to count as a whole person so that they could overwhelm the government with Representatives and Electors. They settled for 3/5 because it gave them an unfair advantage, ultimately allowing them to win the Election of 1800, because as we all know, Southerners have so much honor.

depends on when you are referring to....
The proposed ratio was, however, a ready solution to the impasse that arose during the Constitutional Convention. In that situation, the alignment of the contending forces was the reverse of what had obtained under the Articles of Confederation. In amending the Articles, the North wanted slaves to count for more than the South did, because the objective was to determine taxes paid by the states to the federal government. In the Constitutional Convention, the more important issue was representation in Congress, so the South wanted slaves to count for more than the North did

No, they wound up compromising on that and I sure wish they hadn't and am certainly glad we no longer live in that era. The original constitution included a ban on slavery and ensured equality, it was changed and that portion was added during the convention.
