Have you considered that they were simply playing to the rich man's ego ? Churchill and Stalin couldn't have given a toss WHO sat in the middle.

That's bullshit.

The Soviets paid in blood. The Americans paid in cash. The British paid with the loss of their Empire. Russia alone wouldn't have defeated Nazi Germany. Hitler screwed up by continually expanding the war until he had everybody wanting to kick his ass--which they did.

Machinery needs manpower. Man power meant courage. The Russians had the moral high ground- just like they do today.
The fact remains- despite the material support of the US- Russia broke Hitler on his Eastern Front- and that's what won WW2.
