Reports: One officer dead, multiple others shot in southeastern Kentucky

Kentucky State Police were called to a scene in the small town of Allen, Kentucky, in Floyd County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022 to help officers on a report of shots fired, KSP Trooper Matt Gayheart said. When they arrived, it turned into an active shooter situation.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One officer is dead and multiple other law enforcement officers were reportedly shot in southeastern Kentucky on Thursday. A suspect is in custody.
ATF Louisville said agencies were responding to a shooting scene and armed person barricading themselves inside a home.
Kentucky State Police were called to the scene at 6:30 p.m. to help officers on a report of shots fired, KSP Trooper Matt Gayheart said. When they arrived, it turned into an active shooter situation, he said.
The shooter has since been taken into custody. When asked about reports that officers were in hospitals, Gayheart said "We do have injuries, but at this time, that status will not be released."
LEX18 in Lexington who spoke to the Floyd County Sheriff and confirmed one officer died.
Gayheart said more information could be released Friday morning.
Law enforcement groups posted on social media Thursday night asking for prayers for officers on scene in the small town of Allen, in Floyd County, Kentucky, which is about 35 miles northeast of Hazard, Kentucky.
In a Facebook post, the Hodgenville Police Department said "Reports out of Floyd County KY say multiple law enforcement officers have been shot and the scene is still active. Please pray for our brothers tonight as they will surely need them."
