"WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz filed a resolution late Monday to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker, setting up a likely showdown vote in the House in the days ahead.

The far-right Republican from Florida has for months threatened to use the procedural tool — called a motion to vacate — to try to strip McCarthy of his office. Those threats escalated over the weekend after McCarthy relied on Democrats to provide the necessary votes to fund the government."

What do you think? My vote is "nope". Only because no one else is crazy enough to try to lead the nut house. Can you imagine trying to reason with people like Gaetz, MTG, Comer, Jordan and the rest of that clown car?

I don't think so.
 
It will remain McCarty's whether he wants it or not. I think McCarthy wants it mostly for the prestige - he's 3rd in line for president.
 
I hope Gaetz fails. But the way it's structured, he could actually fuck things up. No idea what is going through his alleged mind.

They already do - the Democrats are the party McCarthy had to run to in order to secure the 45-day funding bill. The Dems are powerless to stop the sham anti-Biden hearings.
 
I think Gaetz is saying that he thinks it will fail, but he thinks that some Ds will vote for him and thus prove that he's "their Speaker and not mine!"

He keeps saying those exact words, which pretty much tells me that Gaetz thinks he'll still be Speaker, just without Gaetz's vote this time.

I'd be shocked if any of the Dems voted with Gaetz. I don't think anyone in the D's caucus wants, "I'm with Gaetz" on their tombstone!

Many in the House are done with Gaetz, but it would still go through if Dems want McTrumpy gone.

So do Dems tell him to stop the embarrassment of an impeachment in exchange for his position?

Could he be trusted?

Anyone MAGAloons seat in McTrumpy's place would be even worse.
 
I figure that a good 80% of the House is Uniparty, and that this guy would not be Speaker unless he was Uniparty, so I assume that he will be fine.

But do note that I pay almost no attention to the political games in Congress, they are almost all diversions as the Revolution consolidates power.

McCarthy is powerless to stop the impeachment. Dems know that. Who else would be speaker? The GOP's not going to allow a Dem to get the gavel. It's McCarthy's. He's the only one who wants it.
