Remember what Samuel Clemons said.

Taichiliberal

Shaken, not stirred!
When I was in high school, our Sociology teacher played an audio version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

At the time there were a total of 9 black kids in my graduating class.

The teacher, a wise man, didn't do the usual speeches and warnings...instead he read this to the class, the preface by Mark Twain

NOTICE
PERSONS attempting to find a motive in this narra- tive will be prosecuted; persons attempting to find a moral in it will be banished; persons attempting to find a plot in it will be shot.
BY ORDER OF THE AUTHOR,
Per G.G., Chief of Ordnance.

EXPLANATORY
IN this book a number of dialects are used, to wit: the Missouri negro dialect; the extremest form of the backwoods Southwestern dialect; the ordinary "Pike County" dialect; and four modified varieties of this last. The shadings have not been done in a hap- hazard fashion, or by guesswork; but painstakingly, and with the trustworthy guidance and support of personal familiarity with these several forms of speech.
I make this explanation for the reason that without it many readers would suppose that all these characters were trying to talk alike and not succeeding.

He then said if anyone didn't understand what was meant, just raise their hand and he would explain. A few kids did, and the explanation was given.

Still, some nasty little "jokes" were uttered during the playing of the records....and they got some nasty little retorts. Follow up essays were assigned, grades given...the world turned.

So all this current nonsense as to changing words in various books in some local libraries and such is not helping anything or anybody. Creating a false history will create present problems. So leave the books alone, assign age appropriate reading levels, and then get a competent teacher to lead discussions and such as to meanings, viewpoints and such.

This goes for left and right and in between political and social folk.

Thank you. :|

I couldn't agree more but we are already fucked in this regard. Even people on the left who correctly call for what you advocate here are canceled. I read an article about 2 weeks ago of a professor giving a summer seminar to HS students on race. The professor was left leaning in his ideology but he welcomed opposing opinions and wanted to have a discussion about the issue of race. The students eventually boycotted the class claiming he didn't do enough to keep them safe from the harm of opposing views. We are fucked.

Quoting Mark Twain is never a mistake.
